A spiritual surprise – and a record that we really didn't expect! Joey DeFrancesco's really got a great edge this time around, thanks in part to some incredibly strong saxophone work on the album from Troy Roberts and the legendary Pharoah Sanders! We'll be honest in saying that we first saw Pharoah's name on the cover, and were marveling at his sounds when the soprano sax came in on the first track – but then we picked up the record, and realized that Roberts handles most of the saxophone on the first half of the record – and we were further blown away by his combination with Joey's work on the organ! DeFrancesco really seems to be on fire here – maybe driven by Troy's strong edge, which is a sublime pairing – and the duo get some equally wonderful drums from Billy Hart, who keeps things moving all the way through – as the album soars to the skies, in a way we're not use to hearing from Joey. Sanders comes in as the album hits the halfway mark, and lends his tremendous tenor to three very spiritual tunes – and Sammy Figueroa also plays a bit of percussion on some tracks as well.
