Dark Star

LP (Item 918030) WRWTFWW, Early 70s — Condition: Near Mint-

Way more than just an ordinary soundtrack – and instead a cool sort of audio document of this freaky 80s film from John Carpenter – assembled out of his own electronic music, lots of spacey sound effects, and even some very cool dialogue and other sounds from the movie – in two side-long tracks that each almost work like some sort of almost-narrative representation of the sonic space of Dark Star! The approach is unusual, but really gives the soundtrack a spooky feel – pulling it away from any images on the screen, and making it feel more like some older vintage horror scenario, save for the electronics, which are a cool mix of analogue and digital modes! 7" single also features bonus tracks – "Doolittle's Solo (remake)" by Alan Howarth, "Benson Arizona (remake)" by Dominik Hauser, and "When Twilight Falls On NGC 891" by Martin Segundo & The Scintilla Strings – plus a trailer for the film, and four loop tracks!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Still in the shrink with hype sticker, including the printed inner sleeve and bonus 7-inch.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Zombi 3
Beat/WRWTFWW (Switzerland), 1988. Near Mint-
A supremely 80s-styled soundtrack to this Lucio Fulci Zombi film from the decade of cheap horror – done with lots of heavy electric guitar in a post-Goblin sort of way, plus a bit of tinny percussion and keyboards – all of which must have been a great accompaniment to the cheesy special ... Happy Ending
United Artists, 1969. Very Good+
A slice of genius from Michel Legrand – one of his brilliant late 60s soundtracks, not as well remembered as, but cut during the same period as The Thomas Crown Affair. Goldfinger
United Artists, 1964. Very Good+
The soundtrack that put John Barry over the top – and to many, THE James Bond soundtrack! The album chills from the first notes of the haunting title theme – the majestic "Goldfinger", sung by Shirley Bassey with a tone that's as dangerous as a razor-sharp hat spinning ... LP, Vinyl record album

Harley Hatcher

Wild Wheels
RCA, 1969. Very Good+
A weird batch of folksy rock tunes – composed and produced by Harley Hatcher for Sidewalk Enterprises, and sounding a lot more like a Sidewalk or Tower soundtrack than something on RCA. Die Halbstarken
Bear Family (Germany), 1956. Near Mint- Gatefold
50s soundtrack by German composer Martin Bottcher! The approach here is strongly in the 50s crime jazz mode – and the work sparkles with the best of the American generation of the time, including Henry Mancini, Elmer Bernstein, and Leith Stevens. Instrumentation includes a number of weird ... LP, Vinyl record album

Polydor, 1978. Very Good+
A masterpiece – and don't pass it up! Sure, the date's a bit later than some of Roy's classic work, but the record's got a sound like no other – with a slow mellow jazzy style that shows Roy working at the height of his powers!
