Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Wright Stuff/Live
Hi Records/Demon (UK), Mid 70s. Used
2 of OV's later Hi recordings – back to back on one CD. The Wright Stuff has OV working in the mellow mode of much later Hi albums – Memphis soul firmly in place, but perhaps a bit more restrained than in earlier years. Some of the fire comes back in the live set, a nicely done record ... CD

Essential! When this one came out at the end of the 80's, it not only restored our faith in modern soul music, but it also drew the world's attention to the rich rich talents that had been bubbling under in London's mid 80's rare groove scene. The record's a classic, and most of the tracks still ... CD
Columbia/Expansion (UK), 1986. Used
James D-Train Williams' first album for a major label – and a really great follow-up to the indie success of his initial recordings for Prelude Records! The style here is very similar to the clubby grooves of D-Train's earlier sides – thanks to strong keyboards, production, and ... CD

James Brown

Hot Pants
Polygram, 1971. Used
James Brown really opens up on this early 70s classic – really showing the world the amazing groove he was crafting with his band – who were let loose to jam in the studio, spinning out some really long grooves – which were then cut down to make this sweet little record! The ... CD

Brenda Russell

Get Here
A&M, 1988. Used
A seminal bit of late 80s soul – and one of Brenda Russell's biggest albums ever! This 1988 set features some really sweet tunes by Brenda – a bit more off-beat pop than some of her contemporaries, recorded in a style that has some nice jazzy touches – all in that slightly ... CD
RCA/Wounded Bird, 1981. Used
A great step into the 80s for The Pointer Sisters – a record that has them bringing in themes that are a bit more soulful than some of their previous efforts! The album's still got all the big crossover potential of their other hits – but the groove's got a solidly soulful vibe overall ... CD

Al Jarreau

All Fly Home
Warner, 1978. Used
Classic fusiony jazzy soulful vocals from Al, with the bright kind of LA groove that brought Al into millions of living rooms during the 70s. Tracks include "I'm Home", "Brite & Sunny Babe", "Fly", "I Do", "Thinkin' About It Too", and his ... CD
