Bongos For Beatniks

CD (Item 914728) Blow Up (UK), 2011 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

Groovy funk with spacey and earthy touches from London's Bongolian! Bongolian is the longtime project of one man funk orchestra Nasser Bouzida –-also the frontman of fellow Blow Up funk combo Big Boss Man – pulling off a live band sound that's as rich and far-reaching as anyone in the UK funk scene over the past decade! He always deftly covers a lot of territory – organ & percussive funk, cosmic keys and wild rhythms of all kinds. On Bongos For Beatniks, Bongololian brings in some more globally flavored soundscapes – from Latin boogaloo and beyond, madly fused with a pulpy funk of all stripes. Bouzida plays all kinds of keys, bongos, drums, clavient, cowell, shakers, strings and occasionally sings – with help on trombone on a handful of numbers by Tom Brady and violin on one by Margaret Ellwood. Includes "The Riviera Affair", "Moscow Queen", "Strange Lover", "Pretty Bertie", "Bongolian Dream", "Tortoise Walk". 13 tracks on the CD.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Blow Up (UK), 2014. Used
Maybe the coolest record we've ever heard from this mod British combo – a set that gets way past the easy retro references of previous albums, and goes for a vibe that's quite complicated, but still pretty darn groovy! The set's got the look and feel of the best jazzy soundtracks of the 60s ... CD

Meltdown
East Green (UK), 2016. Used
Heavy funk, with some 70s Afro touches too – served up with some help from the Mighty Mocambos, Spike Orchestra, The Snitch, and other deep funk combos too! The horns here are nice and heavy, but used in a way that's different from both familiar Afro Funk and Ethio-styled work too – ... CD

Lance Ferguson has given us plenty of great work over the years – from his work in The Bamboos, to all his many other projects – yet as much as we've liked all of those, this one might actually be one of his best – a fantastic reworking of rare groove tracks from the 70s, all with ... CD

Erik Truffaz

Revisite
Blue Note, 2001. Used
The spacey work of Swiss trumpeter Erik Truffaz gets the remix treatment, in a great set of chillout grooves! Truffaz has a great sound – kind of a blend of late 60s Miles Davis, and mid 70s Eddie Henderson – and his first few albums for Blue Note France have been some of our favorite ... CD

Doin' Something
Blue Note, 2001. Used
Great stuff from one of the funkiest combos around! Soulive are part of the second wave of US jam-band funk acts – the sort of groovy groups that have been springing up in the wake of Medeski, Martin, & Wood's success over the past 10 years – and the combo's got a tight no-nonsense ... CD
