Five Satins Sing (black cover)

LP (Item 914587) Ember, 1957 — Condition: Fair

(Pastel dots label with deep groove. Vinyl looks pretty rough but plays better than expected, with some surface noise and occasional crackle. Cover has surface wear and split seams held with clear tape.)

Fair

This is a grade we rarely use, as we try not to sell records in very bad condition, though in some rare cases we will list a record in such bad shape that it does not conform to the standards above. A "Fair" record will have enough marks or significant flaws that it does not even qualify as "Good", but is a copy you might consider for playing, if you're willing to put up with noise and/or flaws. An example might be a recording with surface noise so heavy that it is equal to the volume of the music. For records listed as "Fair", we will describe the extent of the condition in the comments.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Atlantic, 1970. Very Good

ABC, 1973. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A double album recorded for ABC after Charles left Warner Brothers and the 103rd Street Rhythm Band behind – but still very much an extension of that group's later stretched-out funky records! Nice long cuts with grooves that are a little bit more jazzy than his earlier 60's stuff. Tracks ... LP, Vinyl record album

Salsoul, 1981. Good+
A club classic on Salsoul – with a soaring sound that's still grooving dancefloors today! Songs In The Key Of Life
Tamla, 1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold

Wilmer & The Dukes

Wilmer & The Dukes
Aphrodisiac, Late 60s. Near Mint-
An excellent lost soul group – with a mix of funk and garage rock that was pretty unique, and which calls to mind some of the mixed-race combos that were playing around the showband scene in the south during the late 60s. The strong-voiced soul singer Wilmer fronts the more rocking Dukes ... LP, Vinyl record album
