Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Booker Ervin

Exultation!
Prestige/OJC, 1963. Used
A fantastic set by Booker Ervin, and one of his most overlooked sessions! Ervin's hard biting tenor is met by a warm thoughtful group that includes the great Horace Parlan on piano, plus Frank Strozier on alto, and Walter Perkins on drums. Perkins is wonderful, and he lyrically dances about the ... CD

Booker Ervin

Booker 'N Brass
Pacific Jazz, 1967. Used
Although the "with brass" tag of this one might make you think it's a hokey big band album, the record is actually a far-reaching modernist session that has Book's edgey tenor fronting a large-ish group filled with some of the best trumpet and trombone players of his generation – ... CD
Fresh Sound (Spain), 1999. Used
Bud Shank on alto saxophone, Mike Wofford on piano, Bob Magnusson on bass, and Joe LaBarbera on drums. CD
Fresh Sound (Spain), 1990. Used
Bud Shank on alto saxophone & Lou Levy on piano. CD
Jubilee/Fresh Sound (Spain), 1956. Used
One of the few albums as a leader from Mighty Mike Cuozzo – a tight tenor player with a great sort of 50s swing! The set's the kind of no-nonsense, well-blown effort you might expect from Sonny Stitt or Seldon Powell at the time – tunes that pack in plenty over a relatively short space ... CD

Dorothy Donegan

September Song
Jubilee/Fresh Sound (Spain), 1955. Used
Dorothy Donegan tickles the ivories with a mighty nice touch – on a set that shows why she was quite a popular attraction on the 50s scene! Donegan's got a way of approaching the piano with a heck of a lot of vitality – really working the keyboard with great imagination, moving up and ... CD
Blue Note, Late 50s/Early 60s. Used
Tracks include "Minor's Holiday", "Lotus Flower", "Mexico City", "Philly Twist", "Blue Bossa", "Short Story", "Una Mas", and "The Fox". Features work by Joe Henderson, Elvin Jones, Herbie Hancock, Kenny Burrell, ... CD

John Coltrane

Lush Life
Prestige/OJC, 1957/1958. Used
Strong work from John Coltrane's early years as a leader – even if the album is sort of a collection of tracks that Trane recorded for Prestige, instead of a discreetly separate session! Side one features Coltrane's tenor in a spare setting with Earl May on bass and Art Taylor on drums ... CD

Christian McBride

Gettin To It
Verve, 1995. Used
With Christian McBride, Milt Hinton & Ray Brown on bass, Lewis Nash on drums, Cyrus Chestnut on piano, Joshua Redman on saxophone, Steve Turre on trombone, and Roy Hargrove on trumpet and flugelhorn. CD
Affinity (UK), 1962. Used
Not to be confused with Coltrane's other Birdland album, issued on Impulse, with different titles – this one features 2 different live sets. One's from February of 1962, and features Tyner, Garrison, and Jones, with the addition of Eric Dolphy, on long readings of "Mr PC", "Mil ... CD

Eddie Henderson

Inspiration
Milestone, 1994. Used
A wonderfully understated set from Eddie Henderson – one of those great little albums that really opens up the more we give it a listen – and a great reminder that Eddie's got so many gems nestled in his catalog, especially in later years like this! There's a mix of modes going on here ... CD

Nels Cline/Andrea Parkins/Tom Rainey

Downpour
Victo (Canada), 2006. Used
