❔

The title might be a bit reversed – because there's hardly anything 21st Century at all about this music – and at some level, it almost feels as if Jerry Solomon is going back in time – at least within the parameters of his own life! The songs often have this weird, almost child-like approach – with spare instrumentation that might include toy piano, chimes, percussion, and guitar – the last of which is almost never used in a straightforward manner. Jerry sings, but with this almost dirge-like quality – in a way that instantly makes all the tunes sound very weird and offbeat right from the start. The titles give a good idea of the spirit – and include "Denied Of All Human Life", "I Just Don't Fit This Modern Age", "A Good Old Fashioned Date", "They Came From Everywhere", and "Past The 20th Century".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Modern Harmonic, Mid 70s. Sealed
Alan Munson might look like some sort of tough biker on the cover, but the music within is surprisingly sensitive – really well-penned singer/songwriter material, done with a style that's personal, and also quite unique! Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A double-length set from The Rascals – possibly their most stretched-out exploration of ideas, at least during their initial run for Atlantic Records! Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan
Columbia, 1962. Very Good
Sure, the young Bob Dylan might look a bit hokey on the cover – but he's already out there way ahead of the pack – and starting to blow away any of the less interesting pop folkies who'd been crowding into the Greenwich Village scene of the early 60s! Jazz in romantic places, but some pretty groovy ones too – a host of global destinations all referenced in the track selection for the set! Amazing soul from Rotary Connection – and one of their greatest albums!
