San Antonio Jazz

LP (Item 913583) IAJRC, Mid 30s — Condition: Near Mint-

...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

An album of radio broadcast material – but still an excellent collection of work by one of the greatest tenor players ever! Tubby's solos are a lot stronger than you'd expect for the average broadcast gig – as you'll hear on these tracks that date from 1957 through 1972, and which ... LP, Vinyl record album

Members Don't Get Weary
Atlantic, 1968. Very Good-
Fantastic stuff, and a record that was virtually the blueprint for spiritual soul jazz in the 70s! Although Max Roach first rose to fame during the bop years, by the time of this set he'd really stretched out a lot – moving past initial righteous projects in the Civil Rights era, to even ... Caldera

Capitol, 1977. Near Mint-
Classic Latin-tinged fusion on Capitol – recorded with a smooth soulful style that's right up there with the best of the Capitol Rare generation! Doin' Allright
Blue Note, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Doin Allright? Dexter's doing great on this one – working with that fully mature Blue Note sound of his – a rich approach to soloing that keeps the tracks cooking with excitement! Russ Garcia

Carioca
RCA, 1958. Near Mint-
An excellent album of Latin arrangements by this much-overlooked bandleader – one of Russ Garcia's real standouts, and a tremendous little set throughout! There's a vibe here that's similar to the best Stan Kenton Latin sides of the 50s – but not as arch-modern at times, and with the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Mercury, 1976. Near Mint-
One of the most ambitious records ever made by electronic wizard Patrick Gleeson – a huge talent on the moog and Arp, whose work was featured on key 70s jazz albums by Charles Earland, Joe Henderson, Bennie Maupin, and Herbie Hancock – and that's saying a lot, given that Herbie already ... Them Changes
Cadet, 1970. Very Good-
One of the hardest-hitting electric sets ever cut by Ramsey Lewis – a live performance from the start of the 70s, done with a really gritty groove! A totally great Grover Washington record – and with 25 years behind us, we really now realize how fantastic all the early Kudu sessions really were!
