Last Of The Ski Bums

LP (Item 9134) World Pacific, Late 60s — Condition: Sealed
A groovy little soundtrack – played by The Sandals, the same group who worked on the film The Endless Summer – director Bruce Brown's strange documentary about surfers around the world. This time around, the theme is skiers – and The Sandals more than rise to meet the challenge – crafting some tight and groovy 60s instrumentals, with lots of guitar riffing over crackling bass and drum parts. Check out the tracks "Soul Something" and "Porsche" for some real grooviness – and keep on grooving through "Ski Bum", "Yellow Dove", "Return From The Casino", and "Water & Stone".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Michel Legrand

Breezy
MCA, 1973. Near Mint-
Breezy indeed – as the record has a light, floating approach that's every bit the best part of Legrand's work in the 70s! The album's mostly instrumentals – strings soaring over slinky bass and sublimated rhythms, in the manner of the best post-60s French soundtracks, occasionally ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jack Nitzsche, Captain Beefheart & Others

Blue Collar – Original Soundtrack
MCA, 1978. Near Mint-
Some choice soundtrack work from Jack Nitzsche's prime 70s period, with a handful other tracks by Howlin' Wolf, Captain Beefhaeart and Ike & Tina Turner. For the most part the soundtrack is bluesy rootsy stuff, to go along with the slant of the film, but there is a great funky break on the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eric Feremans

Antwerp Killer
Finders Keepers (UK), 1983. Near Mint-
A very cool electronic soundtrack for this obscure early 80s slasher film – music that's a lot more complex and sensitive than the usual sounds used for slashers – with a style that reminds us of some of the hippest late 70s music on the Sky Records label! Eric Feremens comes from a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sol Kaplan

Young Lovers
Columbia, Late 60s. Very Good
A pretty nice little soundtrack from a period when Columbia was sneaking out some great material in the genre! The album features tracks by Kaplan that run through a variety of moods – some are orchestral and dramatic, but there's also some good groovy numbers too – a few nice, almost ... Lalo Schifrin

Cincinnati Kid
MGM, 1965. Near Mint-
This one's got a bluesy jazz approach – set by Ray Charles' version of the title theme, and followed through by Lalo's great instrumental tracks – which mix strings, soul, and just the right jazzy touches to keep things moving along with a subtle groove. Titles include "The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Finer Moments
Zappa, Late 60s/Early 70s. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Finer moments from Frank Zappa, but some lost moments too – given that all the tracks on the set are previously unreleased – and are pulled from both live and studio recordings during Zappa's formative late 60s/early 70s stretch! The package is a real treasure trove – a reward to ... LP, Vinyl record album
