Como Dizia O Poeta

LP (Item 9121) RGE (Brazil), 1971 — Condition: Very Good-
One of the greatest 70s collaborations between Vinicius De Moraes and Toquinho – and a record that's made even nicer by vocals from co-composer Marilia Medalha! Arrangements here are full and lofty – still driven with some of the lighter bossa rhythms of the pair's other albums, but given a bit more cohesion through the efforts of arranger Jose Briamonte – who kind of takes the whole thing to the next level, and gives the record the grander feel of earlier records on labels like Forma or Elenco, which are clearly the inspiration for this one! Titles include "Como Dizia O Poeta", "Tarde Em Itapoan", "Tomara", "Samba de Gesse", and "Samba da Rosa".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

E Tempo De Samba
RGE (Brazil), 1967. Very Good
A cool change for the Zimbo Trio – one that has them adding in extra strings to their core bossa jazz style, for a sound that's completely sublime all the way through! Helena De Lima

O Ceu Quem Vem De Voce
RGE (Brazil), Mid 60s. Very Good
A Brazilian singer with a hell of a voice – the lovely Helena De Lima, whose vocal range really fits the lush moods of the tunes on the set! Things are in a more melancholy look than you'd guess from Helena's look on the cover – a nice sort of blueness that's never too overdone, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

A live and lively little bossa vocal set – recorded at the Cangaceiro nightclub, with backing by a really great small combo! One of the more soul-oriented albums of the Brazilian 70s TV soundtrack genre – a great mix of tracks with a strong R&B groove – and plenty of subtle funky moments! Very groovy! This is one of a few excellent albums made by the team of Jaime Alem and Nair during the 70s – and although the set's a tribute to the compositions of Dorival Caymmi, Jaime & Nair take the tunes and make them their own through some excellent jazzy backings.
