New Thresholds In Sound (Jukebox EP)

7-inch (Item 911721) RCA, 1963 — Condition: Sealed
(pic cover)

Sid Ramin at his most dynamic – heard here on this sweet RCA session from the early 60s, in modes that really show the same kind of arrangements that Sid was doing for TV at the time! The feel of the record really lives up to the "new thresholds" title – as Ramin pushes the orchestra in all these colorful, vivid ways – yet still also while keeping things fluid, and a fair bit jazz at times – never letting the album just be one of those tricks for the hi-fi crowd, and still hanging on strongly to a musical mode! Tracks include "Strike Up The Band", "Swanee", "Bewitched", "Sweetest Sounds", "Varsity Drag", and "Life Is Just A Bowl Of Cherries".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes jukebox strips and mini LP images.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tell Him About Johnny/I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman
RCA, 1967. Near Mint-
An obscure little soul single from Mauricio Smith – the Latin flute player who cut only a few records in his day, all very groovy! "Tell Him About Johnny" is a vocal number – Mauricio's flute riffing around a lot in the background, and getting a few brief moments upfront ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

RCA, 1957. Very Good+ (pic cover)
From one of Tito's best sets for RCA! The record was cut with a host of excellent jazz players – like Gene Quill, Jimmy Cobb, Eddie Bert, and Barry Galbraith – and the style's a mix of Latin grooves with that tight ensemble jazz style that RCA was forging so well during the mid 50s. ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Two wonderful cuts from David Bowie's Philly soul period! "Fame" is his classic collaboration with John Lennon – a tune with very wry lyrics, and a wonderfully funky groove too – one you'll recognize right away! "Right" is one that we love even more – a ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

It Must Be Love/From The Top of My Heart
Torrid, Late 60s. Near Mint-
The Steelers were one of the best harmony groups to ever come out of Chicago, and although they never broke as big as some of their east coast counterparts, they cut some pretty darn nice singles in their day – including this one! Sublime stuff! "I Don't Know" is a great deep soul harmony cut – rolling into a midtempo groove from the intro like a rare Stax gem, with some great guitar and organ riffing along with the vocals, which are sung in a mode that's raspy and sweet at the same time! "Look What ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
