New Thresholds In Sound (Jukebox EP)

7-inch (Item 911721) RCA, 1963 — Condition: Sealed
(pic cover)

Sid Ramin at his most dynamic – heard here on this sweet RCA session from the early 60s, in modes that really show the same kind of arrangements that Sid was doing for TV at the time! The feel of the record really lives up to the "new thresholds" title – as Ramin pushes the orchestra in all these colorful, vivid ways – yet still also while keeping things fluid, and a fair bit jazz at times – never letting the album just be one of those tricks for the hi-fi crowd, and still hanging on strongly to a musical mode! Tracks include "Strike Up The Band", "Swanee", "Bewitched", "Sweetest Sounds", "Varsity Drag", and "Life Is Just A Bowl Of Cherries".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes jukebox strips and mini LP images.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

I've Got To Find A Way/Instrumental No 1
Nickel, Early 70s. Near Mint-
A righteous soul gem from Chicago – killer work put together by Chi-soul DJ/Arranger Richard Pegue! "Got To Find A Way" features a chorus of singers – not religious, as their name might imply, but a cool group with falsetto soul traces, working in a baroque soul approach that' ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

A very cool little single done by John Fred in the years after his famous Playboy Band pop – 2 tracks done in a slow-stepping style that's a lot like Miami funk of the 70s, but recorded in Fred's usual territory of Louisiana! An excellent hard-to-find track by Lyn Collins! "Me & My Baby" has a wonderful gospelly intro, similar to "Message to the Soul Sisters", which then leaps into a great groove with a nice hard soul hook! The flip has sort of a nice Muscle Shoals-ish sound, with some good ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
