Ahora Es Cuando

LP (Item 911363) Kubaney, Late 60s — Condition: Very Good+
Early work from Pijuan – the only Latin bandleader of the 60s with glasses that were bigger than Ray Barretto's! The album's not as boogaloo oriented as some of his later work – but it has a nice raw quality, with tracks that are played by a small group that includes sax, electric guitar, and percussion. The snaking guitar and sax give the grooves a nice edge – and most tracks have vocals by Johnny Gonzalez. Titles include "Ofensa", "El Carrto Viejo", "Macondo", "La Gota Gorda", "Cafe Y Pan", "Corazon De Arana Negra", and "Yo No Quiero Otro Swing".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a small bit of tape on the bottom seam, but this is a great copy!)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Latin Power
Gema, 1968. Good
Latin Power is Latin Soul – and the album is one of El Gran Combo's best from the boogaloo era! Stunning sounds from the early 70s Peruvian scene – a really unique take on the cumbia mode of the time, and one that's topped with plenty of psychedelic touches as well!
