Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so.
These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play,
but might detract from the looks.
May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be
intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under
the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record.
(Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
Possible minor surface noise when played.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Beautiful original single of Syl's classic track about racial disenfranchisement. The track's filled with deep deep Chicago soul, and it's a stunning set of haunting guitar-based arrangements that are beyond compare! The flip's a nice original, also written by Syl. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Monster funk – and one of the all-time great funky 45s! "Jan Jan" has this sinister mix of horns and organ that's never been duplicated again – one that pounds away for a very unique intro, before guitar twangs in and sets the whole thing rocking! "Girl From Kenya" ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Two beautiful sides of deep soul by one of the best female singers of the genre. "Let It Be Me" is a cover of the famous ballad – but it's done here with a very spare approach, one that has Linda's vocals really going crazy! "Don't Go" is a great weepy soul song – ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Nice raw funky soul, from Harvey Scales' early days! "Get Down" has a fast chugging groove, with tight horns, and a very funky James Brown-ish sound. "Love-I-Tis" is a pretty groovy track, and although it's credited to Harvey, we've also heard a few other versions of it over ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
This was a rare version of "Madison Time", released around the same time as Ray Bryant's, and in some places, even more popular than Ray's. Cookie Brown does the calls, and the track grooves along in a very nice Madison swingbeat! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Rare work from this classic Chicago soul singer! "My Love's A Monster" is a real winner – with a stompin northern dancefloor sound that begins with kind of a horror show theme, then goes into a tight groove at midtempo, produced by Monk Higgins with a cool echoey sound! Great ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
A nice one from 50s tenorist Julian Dash! "Zig Zag" is a groovy little instrumental – with Julian's tenor rolling along upfront in a solo, while the band chops along in the back, in kind of a rattle-trap groove that's nice and shaky. The flipside's a ballad, and sounds nice too. 7-inch, Vinyl record
A double-headed monster – two very different sides, both of them great! "Vibrations" is a stellar bit of harmony soul – the kind of sweetly drifting late nite type number that we'd dig through a thousand 45s just to find! The track's got a totally great approach, and a hook ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
