Mar-Vel Masters Vol 4 – It's Country

LP (Item 907743) Cowboy Carl, Late 50s — Condition: Near Mint-
Some of the more hillbilly-oriented work from the Mar-Vel label – with tracks by Rex Jennings, Jack Bradshaw, Ronnie Durbin, Billy Nix, Rem Wall, Bobby Sisco, Bob Reed, and Ginny Carter!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Love

Love
Elektra, 1966. Very Good+
Love's first album – a seminal bit of Sunset Strip rock, and every bit as powerful today as it was in the 60s! The style's a bit sharper-edged than the group's classic and more familiar Forever Changes set, but it's still pretty darn great – a completely fresh batch of guitar-heavy ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shadows

Shades Of Rock
Columbia (UK), 1970. Near Mint-
A groovy, far reaching blend of moddish funk rock, organ groovers, and sounds both spacey and laidback from the Shadows – a mix of rock & soul instrumental covers tight arrangements that leave just enough room for the players to bring just enough intensity to their parts! The ... LP, Vinyl record album
Date, 1968. Near Mint-
An incredible album – one of the greatest rock albums of the 60s, and a record we'd place right up there on the shelf next to Pet Sounds or Forever Changes! The arrangements are sublime – proof that the Zombies were growing way past just a simple Brit Invasion style, into a world of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jose Feliciano

10 To 23
RCA, 1969. Very Good
A groovy record from Jose – with his best kind of crossover feel! It's an unusual title – one that refers to the first track on the record, recorded by Jose Feliciano at age 10 – and the rest of the material included, done when Jose was 23 years old. It's a mixture of American ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pentangle

Pentangle
Reprise, 1968. Very Good
An amazing start to a short but legendary run from Pentangle – a group who played strongly on the guitar genius of Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, but who also adds in a fantastic sense of rhythm too – really transforming the music in the process! LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1980. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
A bit jazzier than usual – thanks to work from Herbie Hancock on keyboards, Wayne Shorter on saxes, Ron Carter on bass, and both Tony Williams and Harvey Mason on drums! Titles include "Love Theme From Spartacus", "Golden Hours", "Gardenia", "La Llave" ... LP, Vinyl record album
Warner, 1975. Near Mint-
The last of Van Dyke Parks' classic early trio of albums for Warner Brothers – and possibly the straightest of the bunch! Parks continues the exploration of ersatz Americana explored on his previous two records – but his approach here is sometimes a bit gentler, almost sentimental at ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nick DeCaro

Italian Graffiti
Blue Thumb, 1974. Very Good
One of our favorite records of all time! We've got to admit, this one's an acquired taste, but if you dig cool LA studio pop from the early 70's, this record's a real treasure! Nick DeCaro was probably best known to the world as an instrumental arranger for A&M (he did a lot of the Claudine ... LP, Vinyl record album
