Moosebumps – An Exploration Into Modern Day Horripilation

LP (Item 905222) Bulk, 2018 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold

The triumphant return of Dr Octagon – finally a worthy follow-up to the Dr Octagon/Dr Octagonecologyst album, one of the most influential hip hop LPs ever – we can't imagine Madvillian and so many other other willfully out there rap classics would've happened without it! Keith's subsequent work under the Dr Octagon persona had its charms for sure – and the same can be said for his other alter-egos of the mid 90s onward – but Dan The Automator's incredible production is so epic, DJ Qbert's scratchwork so masterful, we've always considered it a group project. This full scale reunion is the REAL sequel – and it's one of the best hip hop comeback efforts in years! Includes "Octagon Octagon", "Polka Dots", "Black Hole Son", "Operation Zero", "Bear Witness IV", "Area 54", "3030 Meets The Doc Pt 1", "Karma Sutra", "Hollywood Tailswinging" and more – plus LP bonus track "Aviator Hype".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Clear splatter vinyl, including the printed inner sleeves, but without the lithograph.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Crash Crew
Sugar Hill, 1984. Very Good
One of the greatest hip hop acts from the early days of Sugar Hill – but a group who don't often get the same sort of cred as the label's bigger names at the time! The Crash Crew have a youthful energy that really lives up to their name – a loose approach to rhyme that sounds ... LP, Vinyl record album

Polydor, 1984. Very Good
Sure, maybe Breakin wasn't the most accurate, most faithful portrait of life on the streets in the early 80s – but the film was a great breakout moment for hip hop culture in the mainstream, and also helped sell the new style with a heavy dose of soul! The real stars here are Ollie & ... LP, Vinyl record album

Paul Hardcastle

Rain Forest
Profile, 1985. Near Mint-
If 2 mixes of the seminal electro/jazz classic "Rain Forest" isn't enough to sell you on this album, you might like to know you'll really get your fix for 808 and 909 on these nice jazzy tracks, that really did sound like the future of music to us back in the 80s. Jimmy Smith

Any Number Can Win
Verve, 1963. Very Good Gatefold
Sessions like this are proof that Jimmy was one of the most fantastic organ players ever – as his work with large arrangements (supplied here by Claus Ogerman) always seems to groove better than his work with small combos. His sound is impeccable, and he soars ahead of the rest of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Candi Staton

Young Hearts Run Free
Warner, 1976. Very Good
After first breaking into the soul business as a mellow southern-styled singer cut by Rick Hall in the classic Fame mode of Muscle Shoals, Candi made a wise move to the Hotlanta sound and hooked up with producer Dave Crawford for this runaway hit album from the mid 70s! The title cut – " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shirley Scott

Everybody Loves A Lover
Impulse, 1964. Near Mint- Gatefold
A simple formula, but one of Shirley's best records from the mid 60s, and a tight batch of quartet tracks that also features Stanley Turrentine on tenor. The title cut's a classic jazz stepper in Chicago, with a subtly loping groove that works pretty darn well. Other tracks include "Blue ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ike Quebec

Congo Lament
Blue Note, 1962/1981. Near Mint-
This is some of the most wonderful stuff that Ike Quebec ever recorded, but oddly, it was not issued until 1981, and even then, it only appeared briefly (this really is a tough one to find). Ike at the helm of a great hard bop sextet, with Stanley Turrentine playing as his fantastic young self, ... LP, Vinyl record album
