Rhythm & Blues In The Night

LP (Item 905058) Hollywood, Early 50s — Condition: Very Good

Obscure west coast R&B from the postwar years – with titles that include "Mister Blues", "Stead Roll", "I Want To Rock Till I Drop", "Rain Rain Rain", "Honey Love", "Come To Me Darlin", "I'm Gonna Live For Today", and "When My Heart Beats Like A Hammer".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has splitting on the bottom seam and song titles written in pen on the back.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Junior Wells

Southside Blues Jam
Delmark, 1969/1970. Very Good+
An incredible slice of Chicago blues – and maybe one of the most important contributions Delmark ever made to the Windy City scene! The album captures Junior Wells in all his rough and raw brilliance – working in territory that's quite similar to the Chess Records vibe of the early 60s ... LP, Vinyl record album

Specialty/Ace (UK), Mid 50s. Near Mint-
Hip work from one of the important early bluesmen on Specialty records – a hell of a guitar player, as you'd guess from his name – but also a singer with the same kind of raw charms as Johnny Watson in the 50s! LP, Vinyl record album
Flyright (UK), 1954. Near Mint-
Obscure 50s work from Lightning Slim – recorded by Jay Miller, who issued most of his work on Excello – but who got these sides out on the much smaller Feature label! LP, Vinyl record album

RL Burnside

Sounds Machine Groove
Sutro Park, 1979/1980. Near Mint-
Early work from RL Burnside – Mississippi country blues, recorded by David Evans during a few trips to Memphis in 1979 and 1980 – and pretty monumental stuff overall! The sides are billed as the first-ever recordings of RL playing electric guitar – and also the first non-solo ... LP, Vinyl record album
ABC/MCA, 1973. Very Good+
A set that has BB King teaming up with southern soul maestro Dave Crawford – an arranger/producer who helps BB find a whole new groove! Crawford's approach is wonderfully warm and soulful – almost a Hi Records sort of take on the music, which brings King's traditional blues into much ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fanny Brown
Brunswick, 1977. Near Mint-
The one and only album from drummer Don Thompson – a funky Brunswick classic from the 70s, and one of the most unique records we've ever heard from the label at the time! Don's got this style of singing that has a bit of a southern twang at times, but he works with grooves that are ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rotary Connection

Peace
Cadet, Late 60s. Near Mint-
One of the coolest Christmas albums ever – a tripped-out classic from Chicago's legendary Rotary Connection!
