Starship – The De-Lite Superstars

LP (Item 9034) De-Lite, Mid 70s — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold

Nice compilation featuring some of the strongest singles recorded for the De-Lite label, like "Jungle Jazz", "Summer Madness", and "More Funky Stuff" by Kool and the Gang, "Zone" by the Rhythm Makers, and "Get Down" and "You've Got to Keep On Bumpin" by the Kay-Gees. Sure, there's some weak stuff, but over two LPs worth of material, you've got more than your share of great funky 45s, but on album-length tracks.  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Blue label pressing. Vinyl is in great shape, but cover has some edge wear, heavy wear at the spine, some red marker in front, and small sticker in back. Labels on sides A & C have some red marker.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Kool & The Gang

Something Special
De-Lite, 1981. Very Good+
Something Special indeed – as the album was one of the biggest hits for Kool & The Gang, and showed that the group still had plenty of energy left to groove into the 80s! The record features production work by Brazilian music maestro Eumir Deodato – who by this point had become a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Best Of Kool & The Gang
De-Lite, Early 70s. Very Good+
This one's called a "best of", but it's really one of the group's first albums, and it pulls together a host of great early tracks, some of which were only ever on singles! The record's got a shiny gold cover, and it's rare as hen's teeth! Titles include "The Penguin", "Le ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kool & The Gang

Ladies' Night
De-Lite, 1979. Very Good
A shameless dancefloor cash-in move – but a record that's still pretty darn great as well! You all know the big title cut "Ladies Night", so we won't bother to describe it – but we can say that the group wisely hooked up with Deodato, who produced, mixed, and even played ... LP, Vinyl record album
De-Lite, 1979. Near Mint-
Were there ever two words that improved the qualities of each other than "roller" and "disco"? We think not – and this album's more than proof of that! Most of this set is more straight disco than the "roller" version implied by the title – but a few of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Strutt

Time Moves On
Brunswick, 1975. Very Good+
Part funk, part disco, and all the way soul – served up in this one and only album from Strutt! The group were an obscure New Jersey combo from the 70s, but they step out beautifully on this rare Brunswick album – which has the same sort of funk club groove you'd find on a few of the ... MCA, 1980. Sealed
One of the greatest albums ever from Al Hudson and One Way – a set that still has the group bristling with loads of funky energy – yet also hitting a groove that's wonderfully smooth as well! James Brown

Jam 1980s
Polydor, 1978. Very Good+
At the end of the 70s, James was combatting the disco movement by forging his own brand of dancefloor music – a super-heavy fusion of straight-on funk, but with a more up-tempo twist and extended in a style to compete with some of the hit 12" singles being issued at the time. This album ... LP, Vinyl record album

Aretha Franklin

Let Me In Your Life
Atlantic, 1974. Very Good+
Aretha Franklin and electric piano – a really great combination that makes for a whole new level of soulfulness in the 70s! The album's one of Franklin's greatest of the decade – a deepening of the sound she first brought to Atlantic in the 60s, and a maturation of that groove – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rufus & Chaka Khan

Street Player
ABC, 1978. Near Mint- Gatefold
Stunning work from Rufus & Chaka Khan – still very much at the height of their powers on this late 70s release – and still doing things at a level that nobody else can touch! The blend of jazz and soul is completely sublime – given a bit of extra help on arrangements by Clare ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of Aretha Franklin's greatest records – and a complicated batch of jazzy tunes that features arrangements and production by Quincy Jones!
