Jazz At Massey Hall – 10" LP Collection (3 X 10 inch box set)

LP (Item 897954) Debut/Concord, 1953 — Condition: Sealed
3x10" Box Set

A beautiful box set, with equally beautiful contents – three different 10" LPs that replicate the original vinyl release of the material from the famous 1953 Jazz At Massey Hall concert – a legendary concert, with a previously-unmatched quintet of superstar bop players – Charlie Parker on alto, Dizzy Gillespie on trumpet, Bud Powell on piano, Charles Mingus on bass, and Max Roach on drums! The package features replicas of Debut Records releases 2, 3, and 4 – two of which are the Quintet/Jazz At Massey Hall 10" records – the last of which is the Bud Powell Trio release from the concert. The quintet runs down "Perdido", "Salt Peanuts", "All The Things You Are", "Wee", "Hot House" and "A Night In Tunisia" and the trio sides are "Embraceable You", "Sure Thing", "Cherokee", "Jubilee", "Bass-ically Speaking", and "Lullaby Of Birdland".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Still sealed!)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Killer stuff! Despite the early date and boppish orientation of the material on this album, the tracks have a sinister modernist edge that easily belies the later work of both Roach and Hank Mobley.
