Beatles Songbook

LP (Item 892201) Capitol, 1964 — Condition: Near Mint-
(70s yellow label pressing.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Les Baxter

Caribbean Moonlight
Capitol, Mid 50s. Near Mint-
Not as all-out exotic as some of Les' earlier Capitol albums, but still pretty darn great! The theme here is Caribbean exotic, and the rhythms have a little bit more of Cuba and Haiti than they do of primitive Borneo. Les handles them nicely, as always, and contributes some wonderful arrangements ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, 1952. Sealed
A masterpiece of exotica! Ritual Of The Savage is one of those must-have albums from the 50s – a super-huge record upon its initial release, and an album that pushed the genre of exotica far further than most others at the time! Before this record, most attempts at exotica were simple ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nelson Riddle

Sing A Song With Riddle
Capitol, Late 50s. Near Mint- Gatefold
Karaoke old school style. Kind of like a Jamie Aebersold album, with a full book of music and lyrics, so that you can play or sing along to Nelson Riddle's orchestrations. Pretend you're Sinatra, Nat Cole, Judy Garland or Dinah Shore on numbers like "Darn That Dream", "Day In, Day ... LP, Vinyl record album

Franck Pourcel

Les Baxter's La Femme
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good+
A lush romantic reading of Les Baxter's extended suite "La Femme", a bunch of Frenchy sounding compositions designed to fit nicely with Capitol's "Capitol Of the World" series. Pourcel conducts the work in a rich European style, with the usual overblown number of musicians in ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, 1963. Near Mint-
Movie Themes For Lovers Only is a great one – a set that takes some of the best film themes of the early 60s, and turns them into great vehicles for that mellow Gleason sound – that warm mix of orchestrations and some very light jazz touches – heard here on solos from Charlie ... Les Baxter

Wild Guitars
Capitol, Late 50s. Near Mint-
A pretty great album from Les – quite different than his exotica albums from the time, but in a nice way! The record features lots of guitars – as you'd guess from the title – including a lot of Spanish-type acoustic work that's set up in some pretty tasty acoustic grooves. The ... Music For Lovers Only
Capitol, 1953. Very Good+
Music for lovers – and some languid lovers at that – thanks to some perfect mellow moods set by Jackie Gleason! Percussive Mariachi
Solid State, 1967. Near Mint- Gatefold
Ted Sommer arranged, conducted and also plays drums and several percussion instruments on this lively collection of standards done in a percussion heavy style.
