Talk Is Cheap

LP (Item 891558) Third Coast, 1980 — Condition: Very Good

(Cover has a cutout hole and some ringwear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Spooky Tooth & Pierre Henry

Ceremony
A&M, 1969. Very Good-
An amazing collaboration between rock group Spooky Tooth and French composer Pierre Henry – a great meeting of the minds that comes out sounding pretty darn groovy! Henry's right at the height of his "Psyche Rock" experiments here – and he inflects the band's darker style ... LP, Vinyl record album

David Bowie

Young Americans
RCA, 1975. Very Good-
A brilliant soul album! That's right, we said SOUL album! Bowie was at the height of his Ziggy Stardust fame when this one was recorded – a drastic left-turn in styles, forged during a point in his American tour when he could take a break, head to Philly, plug in at the Sigma Sound Studios, ... Donald Fagen

Nightfly
Warner, 1982. Very Good+
A bit of jazzy magic from Fagen – stepping out from the cover of Steely Dan after the Gaucho album, and sounding pretty darn great on his own! The record is almost nostalgic, going back to a 50s of Brubeck, abstract expressionism, and pre-Castro Havana – filled with images that are a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Talking Heads

Speaking In Tongues
Sire, 1983. Very Good-
David Byrne brings his love of funk and soul to the forefront – tightening things up a bit from before, but still staying strongly in a classic Talking Heads groove! The record's possibly the last of the group's initial classic run, and has a surprisingly soulful feel at times – a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cabaret Voltaire

Micro-Phonies
Virgin (UK), 1984. Very Good+
A key early moment for Cabaret Voltaire – a set that has the duo getting a bit more tuneful and song-based than before – yet still more than willing to experiment plenty with their sound! All the cool analogue electronics are still very firmly in place – and mixed with some ... LP, Vinyl record album

Human League

Dare
A&M/Virgin, 1981. Near Mint- Gatefold
A masterpiece of synth pop – and a landmark album for the Human League! The record took the group from the Brit post-punk underground to the charts of the world – with a stark blend of noisy keyboards, spare beats, and Phil Okey's wonderfully flat and monotone vocals. And although the ... LP, Vinyl record album

David Newman

Fathead Comes On
Atlantic, 1962. Very Good+
Early work from David Fathead Newman – so early, the cover has him listed as "Dave" on the front! The album steps nicely off Newman's early work with Ray Charles – and does plenty to establish him as a leader on his own – putting Newman's bold, soulful tenor right ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1965. Near Mint-
Important mid 60s work from Ornette – and one of the few recordings of this format to see larger release at the time! The set captures Ornette in a much freer style than heard on his Atlantic recordings from a few years before – paying alto, violin, and trumpet, in a trio with David ... LP, Vinyl record album

Vi Redd

Lady Soul
Atco, 1962/1963. Very Good
One of the few albums ever issued by female alto player Vi Redd – a really unique artist, and a greatly overlooked talent from the time! Vi's got a wonderfully warm approach – and she often sings in addition to playing alto sax – with this vocal style that's really great, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eddie Harris

Here Comes The Judge
Columbia, Mid 60s. Very Good+
A great lost album from Eddie! The record was one of his few cut for Columbia – recorded between his early years at Vee Jay and his hit years at Atlantic – and it's an excellent little batch of cuts, with a tight Chicago soulful grooving sound, and a strong approach that mixes hardbop ...
