Warm & Soulful - The Best Of Garnet Mimms

LP (Item 889235) United Artists/Stateside (UK), Mid 60s — Condition: Near Mint-

A 16 track compilation of the genius 60s soul work of Garnet Mimms – one of those singers we'll treasure for years, and the kind of talent that first started us digging for rare soul! Garnet's got an incredible voice – both rough and smooth at the same time, recorded on the east coast, but with a honest earthy quality that sort of feels like southern soul from the same generation. This well-done compilation brings together work from Garnet's recordings for the United Artists/Veep label in the early and mid 60s – with tracks that include "Cry Baby", "For Your Precious Love", "Baby Don't You Weep", "One Girl", "A Quiet Place", "A Little Bit Of Soap", "It Was Easier To Hurt Her", "I'll Take Good Care Of You", "It's Just A Matter Of Time", "My Baby", "It's Been Such A Long Way Home", and "That Goes To Show You".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In great shape!)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

United Artists, Late 60s/Early 70s. Very Good
Bobby's so great, it's hard to fit all of his good stuff on one LP – but this set does a pretty darn good job, and includes 12 tracks from his legendary years on United Artists! United Artists, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
Call it what you want, but to us, this is not so much an "oldies" set, as it is a great compilation of soul tunes that were issued on United Artists and some of its subsidiaries. 10 numbers in all, including the excellent Latin groover "Do You Dig It" by Ray Barretto, plus ... United Artists, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
Like the first volume, this isn't so much a collection of "oldies" so much as it is a tasty set of hard to find numbers from the United Artists label – including some killer soul and jazz numbers that are pretty darn hard to track down on LP. The record features two great ones from ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mandrill

Solid
United Artists, 1975. Near Mint-
A tasty set from Mandrill – one of their first records away from the Polydor label, but every bit as great as later efforts for that company, especially Mandrilland. Standout work from ZZ Hill – one of a few albums he cut for United Artists records in the early 70s, all of them great! United Artists, 1979. Near Mint-
Brass Construction's fifth album, and the group's still grooving harder than most of their contemporaries! Strange Fruit
United Artists, 1972. Sealed Gatefold
Post-Tina, Ike Turner changed the name of his band to The Family Vibes, and put out a few nice records of mostly instrumental funk.
