We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used
for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with,
so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.
Used Vinyl Grades
Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for
the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl.
If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws,
these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that
since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with
the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records
are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible
for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt
to listen through them and note how they play.
The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
We can't help but favor the Dells earlier soul work, but later disco numbers like the a-side of this nice single, and the sophisticated title track off the I Touched A Dream LP, a more downtempo cut, are no less great! 7-inch, Vinyl record
A great funky track! "Cut The Cake" is one of those groovers that hit the heights of the charts during the 70s, but which still has a great raw funky sound that still sounds great today. It's been sampled a fair number of times, and it sounds great on 45! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Cool box set that features 4 7" singles with all of the tracks on the original 10" release of the album. The record is one of her earliest Capitol albums, with classic arrangements by Les Baxter, of material that was written by Yma's Partner Moises Vivanco. Great stuff, and the cover ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Little Milton was always one of the more soul-oriented of Chicago blues artists, and this tasty little single, with production by Donny Hathaway, shows him in this light very strongly. "Somebody's Changin" is a nice Chi-soul groover, with a feel that's similar to some of Tyrone Davis' ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
"I Really Love You" is a nice little groover from The Stereos – bouncy doo-woppy vocals in the front, laying down a nice bassline that then breaks when the group hits a shouting chorus! "Please Come Back" is a nice deep soul number – sad and slow, with a bluesy ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Sublime mellow soul from Johnny Bristol! "Do It To My Mind" is a warm and wonderful number – one that begins with a smooth intro that mixes strings and rhythm, which then rolls into an incredibly catchy vocal – one of Johnny's best on record, and right up there with our ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
An enduring piece of funk that managed to crossover to the mainstream, with it's hooky horn lines and nice jazzy phrasing over a tight, popping rhythm, plus a nice rendition of one of our favorite Isley's tunes on the flip. 7-inch, Vinyl record
