Optimistics

LP (Item 884346) Turbo, Early 70s — Condition: Sealed
A fantastic album from this young Baltimore group – and one of the most obscure records on the All-Platinum label at the start of the 70s! The company was home to harmony soul heavyweights The Moments and The Whatnauts – and The Optimistics follow in very similar territory – nicely fragile, and kind of a 70s update of earlier street corner modes – but with a great development towards deeper soul styles by the lead singer – all captured in east coast harmony soul perfection by producer George Kerr! A really overlooked gem in the Sylvia Robinson empire – and titles include "You Put Something New In My Life", "Let's Love", "Should I Let Myself Go", "Say It Baby", "Man", and "If I Could Influence Man".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Earth Wind & Fire

Gratitude
Columbia, 1975. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
Great stuff! Although a live album, Gratitude is one of Earth Wind & Fire's greatest from the mid 70s – a very tight batch of grooves that proves that Maurice White & Co. could play just as well on stage as they could in the studio – and the noise of the crowd going wild is ... A landmark double-live album that was easily one of the most important soul record moments of the 70s! Miles Davis

Sketches Of Spain
Columbia, 1960. Near Mint-
A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects!
