Piano Reflections – Capitol Jazz Classics Vol 12

LP (Item 882248) Capitol, 1953 — Condition: Near Mint-
Obscure small group work from Duke Ellington – trio sides recorded in 1953! Titles include "Janet", "B Sharp Blues", "Night Time", "Dancers In Love", "Kinda Dukish", and "Retrospection".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Duke Ellington

Drum Is A Woman
Columbia, 1956. Very Good+
A hokey cover and title, but a hip little record from Duke Ellington – kind of a story of percussion and jazz, all wrapped together with some great vocals and narration! The format is kind of far-reaching, but never too stuffy – and in a way, the album offers a great opportunity to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Duke Ellington

Ellington Uptown
Columbia, 1952. Very Good-
One of Duke Ellington's standout sides for Columbia – a strong recording that revisits many of the best elements of his earlier work, and offers up some more sophisticated scoring for the 50s – thanks to extended track length in the LP generation! The tunes here are older ones, but ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bethlehem, 1956. Near Mint-
The album's a bit less "historical" than you might guess from the title – at least at the time it was issued in the mid 50s! The material is from Chicago sessions recorded in 1956 – unusual non-Columbia material for the period, featuring the Ellington group working in a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, 1952. Very Good+
Beautiful modernist work from Kenton – one of the first albums to cull his genius together as a whole, filled with the kind of tracks that perfectly sum up his unique approach at the time! If you've ever wondered what makes Kenton so great, this is the album to begin with – as it's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Capitol, Mid 40s/Early 50s. Very Good
A great set of tracks by this oft-overlooked swing guitarist. Kress had a very nice single-note style that swung with a beautiful mellow groove – and these rare sessions from the mid 40s capture him in some great small group settins with players like Hank D'Amico, Stan Freeman, and a very ...
