Tamba Trio – Serie Autografo De Sucessos

LP (Item 881699) Elenco (Brazil), 1970 — Condition: Near Mint-

Bossa piano, harmony vocals, and a sound that's unlike anyone else – heard here in some really classic sides by Brazil's legendary Tamba Trio! The group had a way of approaching a groove that was (and is) truly revolutionary – a sound that not only carried some of the freshest, most modern elements of 60s bossa – but which also encouraged a newly spacious approach overall, thanks to the mighty arranging talents of pianist Luiz Eca! This set features some of the group's greatest sides – and is a perfect introduction to their work – with titles that include "Mas Que Nada", "Reza", "Tamba", "Barquinho", "O Samba Da Minha Terra", "Influencia Do Jazz", and "Se Eu Pudesse Voltar".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(90s Japanese pressing, LEX-9328.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Geraldo Vespar

New Breeze From Brazil
Capitol, 1968. Near Mint-
Mellow bossa guitar – in the tradition of Bonfa or Gilberto, but lacking the same sort of soul. Not bad, but kind of a "cash in on the big names" release by Capitol – although the record was originally recorded in Brazil, so it's at least got some sort of cred. Titles ... LP, Vinyl record album

Meireles E Sua Orquestra

Brasilian Explosion
EMI (Brazil), 1973. Near Mint-
A classic bit of lost funky electric piano from Brazil! The album has a similar feel to Deodato's early 70's work, and includes a killer electric version of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" that's very similar to Deodato's "2001" – soaring along on a great funky groove, with ... LP, Vinyl record album

Elis Regina

Elis Regina in London
Philips (Brazil), 1969. Very Good+
Elis Regina hits the London scene of the late 60s – with amazing results that make the album one of her best from the early years! The style here is still quite bossa-oriented, but backings are done by Peter Knight – who'd worked with Scott Walker and some of the other hip British ... LP, Vinyl record album

Grupo Controle Digital

A Festa E Nossa
Phoenix Spink (Brazil), 1988. Near Mint-
A rare Brazilian album from the 80s, but one that's quite different than you might expect – as these guys have a clear love of keyboards that resonate with some of the bigger electro pop acts of the UK and European scene of the time! The group's really just a duo – Billy Jaguar and Gel ... LP, Vinyl record album

Olhos Negros Vivo
Tropical Diaspora (Germany), 2018. Sealed
A contemporary set from Brazil, but one with a groove that feels like it was lifted right from the 70s – especially that period later in the decade when samba soul modes were coming into play with warmer boogie modes! The set's a live one, and features the strong lead vocals of Renato Gama ... LP, Vinyl record album
RGE (Brazil), 1962. Very Good-
Maysa sings here with great arrangements from maestro Erlon Chaves – warm, round, and fluid – in a way that mixes leaner bossa rhythms with the more romantic styles of an earlier generation! Kapp, Mid 60s. Very Good
A excellent set of instrumental bossa nova tunes by Roberto Menescal – one of Brazil's true musical geniuses of the 60s! The arrangements are bossa, but much more off-kilter than usual, with a weird edge, and groovy instrumentation, like vibes, that are not that common on Brazilian material ... LP, Vinyl record album

Very nice 2LP set that collects some of Herbie's best 60s work for Blue Note – and which moves past the hits to feature some nice gems from hard to find albums. Misleadingly titled – because this isn't a "best of", but a straight album from Lou's days at Cadet, and one of his best, we might add!
