Ain't That A Groove

LP (Item 8772) World Pacific, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good+
One of the greatest records ever cut by organist Billy Larkin – a lean, mean batch of soul jazz instrumentals, recorded with the Delegates combo, featuring tenor work by a young Fats Theus! The tracks are short tight jazz dancers – with a mixture of stepping grooves and some more full on rhythmic modes – and titles include "Tarantula", "Soul Sister", "Playboy Theme", "Puget Sound", "Gwon Train", "Ain't That A Groove", "Ain't Gonna Move", and "Goin Out Of My Head"! One of his great ones!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stereo blue label pressing – a nice clean copy!)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Late 50's session in which Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker try to recreate the sound that made them a legend on the West Coast in the first place. Michelle
World Pacific, 1965. Very Good
Bud Shank takes on the sounds of The Beatles – and a whole host of other 60s pop stars as well – all with results that are as jazzy as they are groovy! Les McCann with Gerald Wilson

More Or Les McCann
World Pacific, Late 60s. Very Good+ Gatefold
A nice session of west coast soul jazz – and one that has Les McCann fronting the soulful group of Gerald Wilson. Les sings on a few tracks, but these are mostly sleepy covers of bluesy standards – like "Please Send Me Someone To Love" and "Since I Fell For You". ... LP, Vinyl record album

South Pacific In Hi Fi
World Pacific, 1958. Very Good+
Chico and his group perform tunes from the Rodgers & Hammerstein score to South Pacific – a surprisingly good choice, actually, as the Rodgers & Hammerstein tunes have a great exotic bent to them, working well with the off-beat rhythms and melodies of the combo.
