Step By Step

LP (Item 869778) Columbia, 1990 — Condition: Very Good

(Includes printed inner sleeve.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Columbia, 1984. Very Good+
A big breakthrough for Philip Bailey – and a record that was kind of a second-level explosion for the Earth Wind & Fire sound in the 80s! Pockets

So Delicious
Columbia, 1979. Very Good+
An oh so tasty batch of jazzy modern soul from the Baltimore combo Pockets – one of the loose assemblage of groups to be directed at the time by Verdine White's Kalimba Productions – and with all the joyful vibes that association implies! Manhattans

Back To Basics
Columbia, 1986. Near Mint-
The Manhattans get back to basics, but they're also working with a sound that's a bit smoother and more contemporary than before – a mix of slightly grooving rhythms and mellower quiet storm moments, the latter of which is especially well-suited to their vocals! Al Johnson

Back For More
Columbia, 1980. Very Good
Wonderful work by Al Johnson – one of the unsung heroes of mellow 70s soul, finally getting his shot on a major label after many years as a songwriter and arranger for other aritsts. Ohio Players

Rattlesnake
Westbound, 1975. Near Mint- Gatefold
A collection of funky tracks recorded by The Players when the were with Westbound, but released later, when they hit Mercury. Sort of a "cleaning house" effort, and not really a unified album, but that doesn't stop it from having some nice moments. Titles include "Introducing the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Power & Light

Power & Light
Cadet, Early 70s. Sealed
One of the deeper soul albums recorded for Cadet – an obscure record with an ensemble vocal feel – clearly inspired by gospel, but done for the hipper soul audiences of the time. Keni Burke

Keni Burke
Dark Horse, 1977. Near Mint-
The first great solo album from Five Stairstep Keni Burke – really recreating himself as a completely different sort of artist – one who's all grown up, and able to work in this jazzy approach to modern soul that's completely great all the way through! Keni produced the record himself ... LP, Vinyl record album
Warner, 1979. Near Mint-
One of the many 70s "children" of Earth Wind & Fire – and an obscure righteous soul combo from the east coast! The group's led by Osiris Marsh – who wrote all the tracks, and sings vocals over the group's bass-heavy keyboard-driven grooves. The record's not as great as ... LP, Vinyl record album
