No silence here – and instead just a warm flow of sound from the trumpet of Avishai Cohen, and his well-matched group – a quintet that also features Bill McHenry on tenor, Yonathan Avishai on piano, Eric Revis on bass, and Nasheet Waits on drums – all players who hit the same sort of laidback, ECM-ish vibe that Cohen's going for on the record! Avishai has this very compressed, economic way of handling his horn – never too overblown, but with this subtle power that kind of swells up slowly, then surprises you – a mode that's sometimes signaled by the piano, but which also sometimes leads first, then pulls the piano in its wake.
