Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

CS Crew

Funky Pack
Cultures Of Soul, 1976. Used
A massive set from Nigeria's CS Crew – and a set that definitely lives up to its title! The bass is super-heavy on these grooves – way more so than on other Afro Funk records of the time, and in ways that easily match, if not beat, the early best by Fatback Band and Kool & The Gang ... CD
Buda (France), Late 60s-Mid 70s. Used
One of the best volumes in this series – especially because it includes a number of tracks by the legendary Mulatu of Ethiopia! The overall feel is much more jazzy than the others, and there's even a few tracks that have a nice funky sound. 14 cuts in all – including "Yekermo ... CD
Numero, Mid 70s. Used
Heavy funk from the Bahamas – a whole bunch of groups that will show you that Nassau had a lot more to offer than The Beginning Of The End! The groove here is totally wonderful – somewhat like American funk of the late 60s and early 70s, but served up with some very unusual rhythmic ... CD

Ananda Shankar & The State Of Bengal

Walking On
Real World, 1999. Used
Back in the 60s, Ananda Shankar was one of the few Indian musicians who was willing to experiment with crossover styles – and the result was a legacy of wild funky tracks that's still having a lot of effect today. As part of that legacy, Ananda's recorded this new album with DJ/producer ... CD
Soul Jazz (UK), 2013. Used
A dizzying, intense and passionate display of Haitian street music – the vibrant, percussive and passionate work of Rara music, recorded by Soul Jazz in Port-Au-Prince – an exciting and eye-opening blend of shouted vocals, metal horn and hollow plastic pipe blowing and clattering drums! ... CD

Orlando Julius & The Afro Sounders

Orlando Julius & The Afro Sounders
Philips/Voodoo Funk, 1973. Used
An uber-rare album from Orlando Julius & The Afro Sounders – recorded at Ginger Baker's studio in Lagos and originally (apparently quite scarcely) released by Philips in 1973 – wonderful stuff and on par with the excellent material the group recorded in the handful of previous years! ... CD

Various

Bombay Disco 2
Cultures Of Soul, 1980s. Used
Bombay grooves, but not just the disco promised in the title – as these cuts come mostly from the 80s years of Bollywood, and show Indian funk moving into a great new realm of styles! There's definitely a disco vibe at the core – and as in other scenes, the style stayed current a lot ... CD

Kourosh Yaghmaei

Malek Jamshid
Now Again, 2016. Used
Stunning new work from Kourosh Yaghmaei – the Iranian rock legend whose trippy sounds of the 70s have become the rage of global collectors – a style of music that Kourosh continues strongly with this new record! The album took over a decade to record – due to all the censorship ... CD

Tony Allen

Source
Blue Note, 2017. Used
One of the coolest records in years from the legendary Tony Allen – and that's saying a lot, given that his legacy includes famous work as a drummer with Fela Kuti, and a much more recent run of very experimental recordings! This set has Tony soaring out on Blue Note – and working with ... CD

Trilok Gurtu

Living Magic
CMP (Germany), 1991. Used
... CD
Columbia, 1959. Used
What can we say? This is the ultimate Miles Davis album – the one that includes so many songs that we've heard way too much in Starbucks, in retail stores, or at a friend's house who claims to be a "jazz expert", but is really a yuppie dilettante. Yet somehow, over all the years, ... CD

Prince

Purple Rain
Warner, 1984. Used
One of the greatest crossover albums of the 80s – and the record that catapulted Prince very firmly into the mainstream! There's a tightness here that surpasses even that of Prince's early classics for Warner Brothers – an unabashed love of a pop hook that makes for some incredibly ... CD
