One of the most ambitious albums that Sunny Murray ever recorded – a set of large ideas and long explorations – performed here by a group of all-star avant players from the time! Murray's vision is wonderful here – even bolder and more expressive than on his work for ESP – and realized by a mighty lineup of players that includes Lester Bowie on trumpet, Arthur Jones and Roscoe Mitchell on alto saxes, Archie Shepp and Kenneth Terrode on tenors, Dave Burrell on piano, and Alan Silva and Malachi Favors on bass! The strong influence of the AACM can definitely be felt on the set – but Murray's presence really changes things up – taking the mood in a different direction than heard on the BYG albums that Mitchell, Bowie, and Favors recorded with the Art Ensemble.
