Greatest Hits

LP (Item 8623) Westbound, 1975 — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold

Great gatefold compilation of their funky Westbound tracks, with such faves as "Pain", "Walt's First Trip", "Funky Worm", "Varee is Love", "Climax", and more. Slightly different track listing than the "Best of the Early Years" comp, and with a cover that has the bald model in a noose.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some ring & edge wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Dennis Coffey

Finger Lickin' Good
Westbound, 1975. Very Good
Certainly not one of Dennis total classics – but with some nice moments of funky guitar that make the record worth having. Coffey's playing is great, as usual, and it's set here amidst some larger electric arrangements that have a nice mid 70s groove to them. You won't find the killer sharp- ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1979. Near Mint-
The first-ever album from Kleeer – and a set that's already got them head and shoulders above most of their contemporaries! The set's got just a bit of the keyboards that would later really define the Kleeer sound – and has some surprising disco elements, too – used by the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Van McCoy

Disco Baby
Avco, 1975. Near Mint-
This is it! The record that helped put disco over in a huge way, with a sound that would go on to be heavily imitated for years to come. Sweeping disco production from Hugo & Luigi arranged and conducted by Van McCoy, already a studio mainstay by this point, coupled with a set of accessible ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shirley Brown

Woman To Woman
Truth, 1974. Near Mint-
Easily one of the top 5 female southern soul albums of the 70s – a landmark record that Shirley Brown never matched again! The record's got an open, honest quality that's far deeper than even other work from the time on Stax Records – a style that's partly Memphis, but which also has ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chambers Brothers

New Generation
Columbia, 1970. Sealed
Kind of a messed-up album, with a bit few too many styles running through the mix – but still with some pretty great moments! The best of these is the track "Funky", which has an amazing drum sound, especially on the intro, which has been sampled famously by Tribe Called Quest. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Taste Of Honey

Taste Of Honey
Capitol, 1978. Sealed
Probably the most successful album the Mizell Brothers ever produced, and a fine set of uptempo groovers from this female soul duet! There's some nice jazzy moments underneath the catchy lyrics, and in a way, the album's style is sort of a blueprint for the sound that would emerge over the next ... LP, Vinyl record album

Michael Jackson

Thriller
Epic, 1982. Very Good+ Gatefold
Arguably the last true moment of genius in Michael Jackson's career – a record that sold a bazillion copies around the world – and for plenty good reason! Michael's still working here with Quincy Jones – in territory that steps nicely from the Off The Wall groove, into territory ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rick James

Cold Blooded
Gordy, 1983. Near Mint- Gatefold
Another stone winner from Rick James' early 80s run for Motown – a set that follows strongly on territory opened up by previous records – especially that bass-heavy approach to funk! The record's maybe not as stone classic as others, but still is way tighter and more put-together than ... LP, Vinyl record album
1750 Arch, 1977. Near Mint-
Amazing stuff! Volume 1 of the series by Arch that compiled all of Conlon Nancarrow's fantastic music for player piano. If you don't know this stuff, it's music that Nancarrow scored by punching holes in rolls of paper, so that the player piano could "play" the compositions as the paper ... LP, Vinyl record album

No Wave
Moers (Germany), 1980. Near Mint-
Classic early 80s material by this legendary group of New York heavies that featured James Blood Ulmer, David Murray, Amin Ali, and Ronald Shannon Jackson.
