Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Great work from James Spaulding – one of the few players of his generation who actually got better with age! As he was in his classic 60s Blue Note recording sessions with other leaders, Spaulding is a hell of a group player – extremely sensitive to the other members of his groups ... CD

Beautiful tenor work from Buck Hill – an under-acknowledged genius who finally got his chance to reach a larger audience with a handful of Muse Records releases like this one! Hill's a player with a great deal of feeling – a tone that stretches back to Coleman Hawkins in his best later ... CD

Muse, 1992. Used
Wallace Roney's hip brother Antoine is a heck of a tenor player – blowing in a post-Coltrane mode that makes him one of the better young talents of the Dewey Redman generation of new traditionalists! Although a 90s set, the record's got a deep sort of energy that almost hearkens back to the ... CD

Muse, 1993. Used
Underground grooving from trumpeter Wallace Roney – one of the excellent albums he recorded for the Muse label in the 90s – a wonderfully well-rounded set that's a tremendous tribute to his tone! The group here is every bit as great as Wallace's work in the frontline – Ravi ... CD

Muse, 1974. Used
An excellent bop side that finds Stitt and his sidemen still at the top of their game, despite the fact that the date was rather late in many of their careers. While others were exploring electric jazz, Stitt, Joe Newman, Duke Jordan, Sam Jones and Roy Brooks, lay out six sides of crisp hard bop: ... CD

32 Jazz/Muse, 1973. Used
Although Joe Chambers came to great fame as the writer and drummer behind some of Bobby Hutcherson's best records of the 70s, he didn't really ever make that many records under his own name as a leader. Fortunately, Muse copped him in the studio for this one – a freewheeling batch of ... CD

Muse/32 Jazz, 1977. Used
The title's a bit hokey – an obvious play on the Star Wars film that was running in theaters at the time of the record – but the sound is classic Willis Jackson at his finest, recorded in a style that's right up there with his best 60s work for Prestige! The group here is a quintet ... CD

Atlantic/Rhino, Early 60s. Used 6CD + Book
We'll be honest with you – we love this stuff! Sure, Ornette made some great recordings for a number of other labels – but as a whole, his Atlantic stuff is some of the greatest modern jazz ever recorded, and no other period of an artist is more worth collecting and having in a ... CD
Columbia, 1961. Used 4 CDs
Originally a 2LP set, but now a 4CD package – with 14 previously unissued tracks! Legendary early live work from Miles Davis – one of the first examples on record of the way that Davis could really stretch out in a concert setting! The music's a bit more straight ahead than later live ... CD
