We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A great one! "Theme From King Kong" is a killer cut – one of the last really funky numbers that Barry White cut in the 70s, with a bouncing rolling bassline that's just great, stepping and changing a lot before the rest of the groove comes in to take the single home! 7-inch, Vinyl record

Funky Barry – always a treat! "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love" is one of Barry's best 70s singles – a back/forth jaunty groover with spaciously soulful vocals, and an incredibly catchy hook! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Atlantic, 1976. Near Mint-
Two good mellow soul cuts from one of his great Atlantic albums. "Groovin" is a bit uptempo, but "You Turned Me On" is a great soul cut. 7-inch, Vinyl record

Not a cover of the Afrika Bambaataa classic of the same name – although the cut does borrow the chorus for its own – and instead some mighty fresh work from Fatnice, set to some crackling cosmic beats! Our favorite is the stripped-down "windy city mix", which has a brasness ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

A beautiful jazzy score by Ellington – and a fitting companion to this classic Otto Preminger film! The record captures Ellington at a perfect moment – right during his Indigos period of increased sophistication, when his band was at an all-time level of perfection. "My Dashiki" is a very hip 60s tune – with that South Africa-through-LA feel that you'd get from work by Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela, lots of jazzy riffing in a bouncy rhythmic style, done with a very righteous edge. The odd thing is that the lyrics almost seem to make fun of ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

One of Odyssey's real classics – a smooth little groove with a classy club sound that never gets old!
