We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Island, 1978. Very Good
One of the greatest reggae crossover tunes of all time! "Now That We Found Love" is a killer tune written by Gamble & Huff – and redone by Third World in a smooth stepping mode that forges Philly modern with Jamaican rhythms, a perfect blend in this case, and an instant classic! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Before Don Was went on to become a huge hit making producer, he cut a number of tasty post disco tracks, like these two excellent Danceteria style numbers, all three versions with an irresistable Lower East Side 80s groove! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Bustin' Loose (parts 1 & 2)
Source, 1979. Very Good-
From the transitional period when Chuck and co. were moving from the harder funk style of their Sussex days to the Go Go sound they'd help pioneer in DC, with a style that combines both, with a bottom heavy groove, wiry guitar, horn stabs and percolating percussion. This single features their ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Runaway (14 mixes)
A&M, 1995. Very Good 2x12"
A boatload of mixes of this Janet Jackson track, one of her more commercial numbers, but given some nice spins by Steve Silk Hurley and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. 14 different mixes seems like they're going a bit overboard, but we're not complaining: "G Man's Hip Hop Mix feat. Coolio" ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Warner, 1979. Very Good+
Nice stuff! The title track to Venus' Night Rider album is remixed here by Jim Burgess – with a good spare club groove, and some nice congas on the intro, plus he works with Patrick Adams on the flip side for another jazzy club bumber! 12-inch, Vinyl record
