Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so.
These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play,
but might detract from the looks.
May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be
intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under
the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record.
(Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
Possible minor surface noise when played.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Funky breaking madness! Nice 12" single of Herbie's big hit cut with Bill Laswell – which sounds surprisingly better today than it did back in 1983. Lots of nice early electro keyboards – and some nice scratching from Grandmaster D St! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Possibly the only good thing to come out of the first Batman movie – and certainly a lot better than Prince's score for the film – this is an extended 20-minute slow jam suite, with a guest appearance by Kim Basinger, and some of the last real sexy musical work that Prince ever did! It' ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
A killer cut! The Clark Sisters were mostly a gospel-oriented group, but they cut this amazing groover during the early 80s, and it's got a semi-secular sound that launched them into the mainstream soul world for a while. The cut's got a great stepping groove, a very catchy hook in the chorus, ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
A timeless track by Teena Marie, off the It Must Be Magic album, though there's no mistaking this one's from the 80s, with a solid midtempo groove and the shiny sound of LA Motown. "Square Biz" is self produced, with Teena asserting her own sound a little more than on some of her other ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Two groovers by the great Manu Dibango! One of many versions of "Soul Makossa", and "Big Blow", a tasty number, and was also a bit of a hit for Manu – with a strong club groove, and excellent sax riffing away over the top! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Paul Lewis turns in 2 Miami versions of these Motown hits – and "Girl You Need A Change Of Mind" is especially nice – rolling along with the same energy as Eddie Kendricks' classic! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Kind of a mainstream take on the Konk sound of earlier years – one that seems bent on crossing over into the world of import grooves of the time, shaking off some of the quirkier rhythms of the New York scene. The track's still pretty nice, with some great 80s riffing guitar – but it's ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
A big US pop hit for Green and the Scritti's – decidedly more mainstream than before, but still with a quirky edge that belies their post-punk roots – especially in the "version" tracks which mix things up with a bit more of a street feel. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Single off the later Electric Cafe LP, one we were set to be disappointed in, but weren't! Here they bring in Francois K to make their track appeal a little more to then modern club sensibilities, with great results, adding just enough pep to the track, but keeping the cool techno feel of the ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
