Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so.
These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play,
but might detract from the looks.
May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be
intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under
the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record.
(Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
Possible minor surface noise when played.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
A very groovy batch of soul and pop tracks from Sergio, recorded with some nice smooth 70s arrangements, and nice jazzy production by Dave Grusin. The whole thing's got a very nice LA sound to it, and is a good adaptation of Sergio's pop Brazil sound to a more modern vibe. Sergio gets help from ... LP, Vinyl record album
A later album by Joao – but a really lovely live performance that sparkles with the warmth and intimacy of his earlier studio albums! The album's got a total of 11 tracks, all recorded at the Montreux jazz festival in 1985 – with no backing for Joao's voice other than his light lively ... LP, Vinyl record album
The title says "88", but the album's from 1978 – and it's one of Sergio's great sets from the 70s that mixes older Brazilian roots with sweeter American soul! The sound is really wonderful – almost more LA than Rio, but still with plenty of Brazilian elements filtered into ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great little album by Elis – recorded for Elektra, but very much in the spirit of her classic work for Philips in the 70s. Like so many of those records, this one features arrangements and keyboards by Cesar Camargo Mariano – and the list of tracks is a stellar blend of work by some ... LP, Vinyl record album
The legendary 1962 Bossa Nova concert at Carnegie Hall. The concert is legendary not only because it was a bit of a disaster (according to legend, just about nobody got paid!), but also because it brought together a huge amount of Brazilian talent on one stage, and premiered their music to a rabid ... A great little 70s album by Nara Leao – very different than her earlier work, but with a similar moody finish! The record was done in close association with Roberto Menescal – who handled both the production and arrangements, as well as played guitar on the session – and all the ... LP, Vinyl record album
An incredibly pure moment of genius from Jobim! Features one of the best versions of "Aqua De Marco" ever, done up in these haunting blue chords, backed by great baroque orchestrations, which descend and trail off, then come sweeping back in. The whole album's just as great, with ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of Astrud Gilberto's greatest albums – and quite possibly our personal favorite! The record features beautifully understated arrangements by Joao Donato, Don Sebesky, and Claus Ogerman – and the instrumentation is a haunting mix of bossa rhythms with darker orchestrations that ... Pure vocal magic – featuring the lovely Flora Purim at the height of her California powers – working in a sublime mix of jazz, fusion, and Brazilian rhythms – a sound that she virtually invented! The group on the set is one of her greatest of the time – with players that ... LP, Vinyl record album
A mellow classic from Nana Caymmi – recorded in that laidback, jazzy style that was fast becoming the trademark sound of the younger Caymmi generation! The approach is a really wonderful – as Nana's dark vocals drift around easily – amidst a set of warm arrangements graced by ... LP, Vinyl record album
A rare 80s set from Astrud Gilberto – cut at a time when she was hardly doing any new recording at all! As you'll guess from the title, the album has Gilberto teaming up with German groovemaker James Last – who handles all the orchestrations for the record, and shows a surprising ...
