An overlooked showcase for the late alto genius of Art Pepper – who was the supposed leader of this date issued under the name of pianist Pete Jolly! Jolly's great, too – very much in the sharpest form of his earliest sides from the 50s and 60s – and the pair work here in a tight quartet with Bob Magnusson on bass, and Roy McCurdy on drums – on a record that's filled with brilliant solos from Pepper! Art's got the magnificently sharp, soulful sound of some of our favorite early albums here – but with some of the more open modes he discovered in the 70s, but not in the completely unbridled way of his Galaxy albums. The balance is wonderful – that crisp Pepper of the early years, given a soulful romp from Jolly's piano – on titles that include "YI Blues", "Night & Day", "Out Of Nowhere", and "You Go To My Head". All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.
