❔

A very cool side of the Sly & Robbie legend – a series of recordings the duo made with a range of different singers – all as Jamaican-styled remakes of American soul and club tracks from the 70s! The vibe here is definitely more reggae than disco – with a groove slowed down a lot more than the speed of Studio 54 – and the pair are really coming into their own as creative talents, working on the experience they gained for years on other folks' records – which really helps create the right sort of rhythms for these grooves. As you'd guess from the dates in the title, the set stretches into the digital reggae years – which turned out to be one of the most productive periods for Sly & Robbie – and titles include "Sexual Healing" by Jimmy Riley, "Show & Tell" by Ken Boothe, "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love" by Home T-4, "Inner City Blues" by Delroy Wilson, "Break Your Promise" by Barry Biggs, "You Must Believe In Me" by Junior Tamlins Moore, "Fever" by Marcia Griffiths, and "Rainy Night In Georgia" by Tinga Stewart.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Island, 1972. Used 2CD
A record that's not only a landmark in Jamaican music – but also a set that was to reggae what Curtis Mayfield's Superfly was to 70s soul! In other words, the set not only raised the bar for all the competition, it also ended up in a lot more record collections than most of them too – ... CD

Bob Marley & The Wailers

Birth Of A Legend – 1963 to 1966
Epic, Mid 60s. Used
Early, early Coxsone Dodd produced sides of groovy rocksteady, voiced by a young Bob Marley with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Natural Wild (CDr pressing)
Hammer Musik, 1980. Used
A later effort from Prince Lincoln and the Rass E's, a kind of forgotten footnote in the roots movement. Though this album is a seemingly odd collaboration with UKL pop star Jow Jackson (or at least he was a pop star in the 80s), it works surprisingly well, and as with his earlier efforts, ... CD
