Mundell Lowe Quintet (10 inch LP)

LP (Item 848288) RCA, 1954 — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold
Very early work from guitarist Mundell Lowe, and quite compelling, too – with small combo instrumentation that includes Phil Kraus on marimba and celeste, Stix Kahn on vibes, and either Sal Salvador or Don Arnone on second guitar.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(A nice copy – even the gatefold cover!)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Great music from jazz guitarist Mundell Lowe – a set that was originally written as the soundtrack for an early 60s sexploitation film, Satin In High Heels – but which works equally well as a jazz album on its own! Hardly the kind of country roads you'd find traveled by other musicians – as Gary Burton's sound here is incredibly fresh – still as groundbreaking now as it was back in the 60s! The title might be a reference to Burton's Nashville roots, and the music does have a slightly pastoral ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shorty Rogers courts Count Basie – but he does so in a way that's definitely all his own! The material may have Basie roots, but the overall execution is Shorty at his early 50s best – in a way that makes the album one of his strongest for RCA at the time – and that's saying a ...
