Up The Down Staircase

LP (Item 84661) United Artists, 1967 — Condition: Very Good+
Here's a groovy one – the swinging mod soundtrack to Up The Down Staircase, a cool late 60s JD film that starred the lovely Sandy Dennis! Fred Karlin did a great job with this one – mixing together some jaunty woodwind passages with nice electric touches that include some fuzzed out guitar, rumbling basslines, and even some occasional tight and heavy drums! Even the mellow tunes are nice, and have a sweet summery sunshiney feel – juxtaposed nicely next to the upbeat numbers to make for a very rich sound overall. Great stuff all around, and with a nice theme that keeps turning up in unusual ways! Titles include "Hot Stuff", "Prove It Teach", "Yesterday's Dream", "CC Street Scene", "Blues For Joe", "March Of The Mimeographs", "The GO Glide", and "First Impressions".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear, aging, and an ink stamp.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

John Barry/Tom Jones

Thunderball
United Artists, 1965. Very Good+
One of the greatest of Barry's scores for the James Bond films – early enough to be raw, but confident enough to change up the mood nicely! The theme song features vocals by Tom Jones – and the rest of the tunes almost reads as a who's who of hipster influences, as so many of them have ... LP, Vinyl record album
United Artists, 1967. Very Good+
An extremely groovy soundtrack from Carlo Rustichelli – one that bridges two generations of Italian comedy scores! At one level, there's a bouncing melodic feel to the score – done in a very Nino Rota-esque way, with plenty of jazzy touches on electric guitar, and some extremely ... LP, Vinyl record album

Riz Ortolani did the soundtrack for this groovy film about 3 Americans (Peter Lawford, Telly Savalas, and Phil Silvers) returning to Italy after the war in a reunion with the woman who is the mother of a child that belongs to one of them. Riz Ortolani

A beautiful little soundtrack from the great Riz Ortolani – maybe not as striking as you'd expect from the cover, but a record that's filled with all sorts of wonderfully-penned moments! One of the grooviest Michael Caine spy films of the 60s – given an equally groovy soundtrack by Konrad Elfers! Luiz Bonfa/Eumir Deodato

Gentle Rain

A dreamy little soundtrack to this lesser-known film – but a real bossa classic from the 60s, featuring original tunes by Luiz Bonfa and orchestrations by Deodato! Jack Ackerman/Teo Macero

Faces
Columbia, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Like the music in most of John Cassavetes films, this LP's a weird mish mash of styles, sounds, and snippets – but it's also got a very emotional edge to it, like all of Cassavetes' films. Jack Ackerman did most of the music, and Teo Macero arranged and conducted all of it. Weird stuff, but ... LP, Vinyl record album
