A brilliant collection of work from Stan Kenton – recordings from his Innovations Orchestra, the groundbreaking group from the years 1950 and 1951, which featured players that include Art Pepper, Bob Cooper, Shorty Rogers, and Laurindo Almeida! The work features Kenton in some of his most modern modes – taking the broad range of colors and tones he first started forging in the late 40s, and fusing them onto some modern jazz ideals of the early 50s. The result is some incredible music that still sounds extremely fresh today – tracks that still have a swinging rhythm and jazz-based solos, but which also have a keen ear towards the 20th Century Classical Music of mid century. Titles include "Solitaire", "Soliloquy", "June Christy", "Shelly Manne", "House Of Strings", "Cello-logy", "Art Pepper", "Halls Of Brass", "In Veradero", "Blues In Riff", and "Coop's Solo". 2CDs, great notes, and 30 tracks in all!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print, full color Jazz Heritage pressing.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Hip 70s work from Stan Kenton – 2 albums recorded live in the UK in 1972, both of them in the best modern style he was using at the time! As with some of Kenton's other excellent 70s sessions, the players on the records are lesser-known than on his classic sets – but all are extremely ... CD

Cuban Fire
Capitol, 1956. Used
One of Kenton's greatest records, and the one in which he proves his dedication to Latin styles, by serving up a killer batch of Afro-Cuban tracks with an incredibly authentic feel.
