A stone classic from the Isleys – the album that kicked off their successful T-Neck label, and established that mighty Isleys sound that would have such a huge influence in the 70s! The title cut of the set – "It's Your Thing" – is a well-known classic that really sets ... LP, Vinyl record album
Not necessarily a soul LP, but a nice bit of 70's pop by the man who wrote a number of big soul hits. Kenny produced and sings, and the LP includes "Wakin Up To Love", "Love's Grown Deep", and "I Like Dreamin". LP, Vinyl record album
Anacostia make the move to Tabu Records for this sweet second set – and they seem to have picked up more of a groove along the way! The same elements as before are firmly in place here – production by Charles Kipps, with supervision from Van McCoy – but the groove is a bit more ... LP, Vinyl record album
Fantastic work from the great Chuck Jackson – a singer who was really at the height of his powers during these early years of his career! One of the two early Earth Wind & Fire LPs recorded for Warner – and the one that shows their amazing roots in the avant-garde jazz scene in Chicago. Classic modern soul from the legendary Frankie Beverly! The record's perhaps one of their best remembered – most likely for the killer cut "Joy & Pain", which has a great hook that's been sampled many times over the years. The record also features the wonderful "Southern ... LP, Vinyl record album
Quite possibly the funkiest album ever from Pleasure – and that's saying a heck of a lot! The album grooves from the very first note – and moves through some of the group's tightest, most rock-solid numbers – all of which use their trademark blend of funky and soul, but which ... Nice mix of jazz and soul, with Earl Hines leading the group, and Weldon Irvine on piano and arrangements. The set's got a few nice originals, like "Love Love Love", "Understanding", and "I Can't Trust Myself". The best cuts are fast jazzy grooves, with a nice jazz ... LP, Vinyl record album
An obscure little funky group from Detroit, one with a tight ensemble sound that's very much in the Earth Wind & Fire mode – complete with a really great horn section, plenty of bass-heavy grooves a the bottom, and a relatively spiritual feel that comes through strongly on the best tracks! ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sly Stone's definitely back on the right track here – returning to the heights of his earlier powers in this late 70s comeback album for Warner Brothers! One of the most compelling later albums on Philly International – a killer mix of jazzy numbers that have a very different style than most of the other Philly work at the time! Even though Leon Huff had been banging around in soul music for about 15 years – most famously as half of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Later Dennis Coffey, but still with some groovy tracks, even though the production's a bit smoother and a little faster than his early stuff. With "Funk Connection", "Back Home", and "Wings of Fire". The guitar's still out front, and the whole thing's written and ... LP, Vinyl record album
