Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Blue Note, Mid 60s. Used
A classic by Big John Patton! The master organ player is joined by Grant Green on guitar, and the much-overlooked drummer Hugh Walker – a fantastic player on the kit, little known, but who played with this incredible "skipping" groove – one that sounds that reminds us a lot ... CD
CTI, 1973. Used
Funky keyboards galore – and one of the greatest records ever from this legendary Brazilian jazz talent! The album follows nicely off Deodato's Prelude classic for CTI – and like that one, this set's built on long-flowing tunes that rise and fall with a wonderful sense of rhythm – ... CD

J Mood
Columbia, 1986. Used
Wynton Marsalis is working in lean quartet formation here – no sax from brother Branford, whose own star was rising – and instead lots more room to really stretch out on his own languid lines on trumpet! The rest of the quartet features Marcus Roberts on piano, Robert Hurst on bass, ... CD

Atlantic/Collectables, 1970. Used
A very hip record of vocal tracks – done in the same sort of spiritual soul style that Les introduced on Roberta Flack's first album, and which was also showing up on some of Donny Hathaway's work for Atlantic. While the record is not on of McCann's funkiest, it more than makes up for that ... CD
Blues For Coltrane
Impulse, 1987. Used
Excellent work from a group that features McCoy Tyner on piano, Cecil McBee on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums – plus either Pharoah Sanders or David Murray on tenor! Versions of "Naima", "The Promise", "Lazy Bird", "Last Of The Hipmen", and "Bluesin ... CD

Poinciana
Argo/MCA, 1958. Used
The tune "Poinciana" must have been written by Jamal – as the lyrical flowing style of the song is perfect for his deeply soulful piano style. It wasn't, though – although this recording of the tune has made it one of the biggest in Jamal's book from the time, a perpetual ... CD
Red Alert
Galaxy/OJC, 1977. Used
A later non-trio session with horns – featuring nice work from Harold Land and Ira Sullivan on tenor, and cornet from Nat Adderley! Titles include "Stella By Starlight", "It's Impossible", "Theme For A Tarzan Movie", and "Red Alert". CD
Prelude
CTI, 1972. Used
A legendary album from the 70s funk scene – and one of the crowning achievements of keyboard maestro Eumir Deodato! Deodato got his start during the bossa years of the 60s – where his sophisticated charts were already enough to make his career a landmark – but in the following ... CD
Hot Buttered Soul
Stax, 1969. Used
Amazing stuff from Isaac Hayes! Although Ike had first appeared on LP with the album "Introducing", this was the first record to really expose his true soul genius – and it was also the first release on Ike's successful sub-label at Stax, Enterprise Records. The record shows that ... CD
Novas Bossas
Blue Note, 2008. Used
This one definitely earns its "nova bossas" title – in that it's got a really unique groove that mixes Milton Nascimento's classic style with jazzier instrumentation from a small bossa combo! The group features Daniel Jobim on piano and Paulo Jobim on guitar – providing ... CD
