$1.99 ...

LP, Vinyl record album

(€1.67 || £1.49 || ¥221) (approx.)

A key step in the path from The Housemartins to Fatboy Slim – Norman Cook's first big dancefloor excursion, and a super-big hit that sounds surprisingly nice these days! (Promo in a plain sleeve. Label has some marker.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Unreal
London, 1973. Near Mint-
Excellent spacey soul from Bloodstone – one of the early 70s best crossover groups! The band has a nice mellow sound, mixed with some elements of uptempo production, and kind of a slightly funky ensemble feel. There's also some of the best elements of that east coast early 70s sound – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Total Contrast
London, 1985. Near Mint-
A standout set of British soul from the 80s – and an early production from Steve "The Scotsman" Harvey! Show & Tell
Cotillion, 1982. Near Mint-
A great set from a group who should have been huge – a surprisingly well put-together vocal trio, featuring lead vocals from Limon Wilson, and great harmonies from Derrell Jackson and Joe Williams! There's a definite groove on most numbers, but it's usually quite far from the stiffer sounds ... LP, Vinyl record album
Wings Of Love
Gordy, 1976. Very Good+
After influencing countless groups of the 70s with their righteous funky soul of the late 60s, the Temps end up sounding kind of silly trying to hit a funk groove like the rest of the other 70s bands. This is the case on side one, where the group's getting some keyboards and funky horn ... LP, Vinyl record album
Riding High
SHE, 1977. Very Good
A spacey soul classic – with a sound that never gets old! A damn great bit of work from the legendary Al Green – maybe one of his best records ever – and in fact, maybe one of greatest soul albums of all time! Ear Wax/Wonderland, Late 70s. Sealed
An obscure little funky group from Detroit, one with a tight ensemble sound that's very much in the Earth Wind & Fire mode – complete with a really great horn section, plenty of bass-heavy grooves a the bottom, and a relatively spiritual feel that comes through strongly on the best tracks! ... Keem-O-Sabe
United Artists, Late 60s. Very Good+
A goofy mix of groovy instrumental tracks with a weird "Apache"-esque instrumentation made up of some nicely processed guitars. The album's sort of funky in parts, with arrangements by Vince Montana that were recorded at Sigma Sound – and which have a late 60s Philly soul vibe to ... LP, Vinyl record album
Freeze
Westbound, 1975. Very Good+
Freeze is a wonderful set from Junie – a record that has all the offbeat funk he was crafting with the Ohio Players during their Westbound years – and the same sort of heady sound that would make Morrison a perfect match with the P-Funk empire! The record contains the legendary track ... LP, Vinyl record album
Friction
Stax, 1974. Very Good
One of the most fantastic albums ever about cheatin' and runnin' around behind the back of your loved one, and easily the best thing the Soul Children ever did.
