This Is My Story

LP (Item 839988) Chess, 1950s/Early 60s — Condition: Very Good
2LP Gatefold
A sweet collection of early work by Sonny Boy Williamson – lots of Chess Records classics!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Orange label 70s pressing. The first 2 tracks on side 3 play with a click, but the rest is great! Cover has faint staining along the opening.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Blues Of Sonny Boy Williamson
Storyville (Denmark), 1963. Near Mint-
The legendary Sonny Boy Williamson, recorded in Copenhagen in the early 60s – but at a level that's still strongly respectful of all the work he'd done in the US – maybe even more so, given the rootsy feel of the whole record! The group is small, and Sonny's vocals and harmonica are ... LP, Vinyl record album

The Big Bill in the title is Big Bill Broonzy – a key influence on midcentury bluesmen all over the US, and paid tribute to nicely here by Muddy Waters! Koko Taylor

Koko Taylor
Chess, 1969. Very Good+
Probably THE album you truly need to own from Koko Taylor – and a completely great one, recorded way before she'd become a cliched fixture paying the bills on the frat boy tourist blues scene! Muddy Waters

Folk Singer
Chess, 1963. Very Good+
A seminal album by Muddy – recorded in a style that's rootsier, and more down to earth than a lot of his other chess sides! Chess, 1960. Very Good+
