Hits Of The 50s

LP (Item 83720) RCA, 1960 — Condition: Very Good+
A classic set of soulful vocals – one in which Sam Cooke sings hits of the 50s (as you'd guess from the title) – but not necessarily his own hits, more a selection of work by other artists – all given a really unique spin by Sam! And while other soul artists occasionally faltered with this sort of crossover project, the set only seems to help Cooke hit new heights – a mature sort of sound that really unlocks the whole power of his amazing voice – one that's got power not just on the soul and gospel fronts, but towards more sophisticated jazz and vocal ends too! Arrangements are by Glenn Osser, and the album's got a sweet approach that makes the tunes sound fresh again – as Sam lends his lovely vocals to tracks that include "Hey There", "Mona Lisa", "You You You", "The Great Pretender", and "Secret Love".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Living Stereo pressing with deep groove. Includes RCA inner sleeve. Cover has a tiny seam split, but looks great overall!)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
