Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

John Berberian & The Middle Eastern Ensemble

Middle Eastern Rock
Verve/Acid Symposium (Greece), 1969. Used
Don't think "rock", think "groove" – because oud player John Berberian takes his instrument into some very groovy territory here – mixing its Mid-East roots with a sweet array of modal rhythms and psychedelic elements – all of which make for an album that's ... CD
Retro Afric (UK), 1970s. Used
They certainly got the title right on this one – because the groove is heavy heavy heavy, and the set is one of the funkiest African collections we've ever stocked! Geraldo Pino's often credited as the man who inspired part of the Fela sound of the 70s – and Pino was one of the first ... CD

Tony Allen

Lagos No Shaking
Honest Jons (UK), 2006. Used
A real back to basics set from Tony Allen – much more strongly in his Afro Funk groove of the late 70s than other recent work, and recorded in Lagos with an earthy approach that's totally great! All the experiments and odd flourishes of recent sets have been stripped away – and Allen ... CD

Dele Sosimi

Turbulent Times
Ekostar (UK), 2002. Used
An incredible set of new Afro Funk work – very much in the best style of current groups, like Antibalas or the Afro Kings – and served up in a very classic style! Dele plays keyboards and sings lead vocals – but the album burns with the strength of the entire ensemble, a tightly-k ... CD

Horace Silver

Cape Verdean Blues
Blue Note, 1965. Used
A classic set from Horace Silver – one in which his quintet is expanded by some great guest work from trombonist JJ Johnson! Johnson's at the height of his 60s powers here – blowing with that lean, soulful style that always made any record sparkle – and although he's only on half ... CD
