Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so.
These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play,
but might detract from the looks.
May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be
intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under
the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record.
(Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
Possible minor surface noise when played.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
An excellent mellow single from Lyn Collins – and one that shows a whole new side of her soulful bag! The track's got a smooth mellow feel, similar to some of the Marlena Shaw work on Blue Note or Columbia, and it begins with a nice spoken intro, in true seventies sophisti-soul style! The ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Funky stuff! Side one features Lyn Collins' famous version of "Think", much harder and heavier than any previous versions of the tune! The flipside's nice, too – and features a very dope laidback version of "Ain't No Sunshine", with Lyn's voice in fine fine form! Both ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
2 killers by the JBs! "Doing It To Death" is one of their best tracks from the early days – with a funky riffing sound you'll know immediately. "Everybody Got Soul" is an excellent party track with a great Maceo solo – lots of grooves, and the band is tight tight ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
A classic JBs single – with a non-LP b-side! "Gimme Some More" is a stone classic by the group – a proud and stomping funk song, with a catchy refrain that starts from the first beat, and which really wails as the tune goes on! "Rabbit" is a rare one with an ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
A killer early funky track by James and The JBs – and one that has that perfect improvised funk groove that the band was honing at the time. The band vamps in the background with a nice choppy riff – while James raps over the top, goading them on, and driving them onto new funky ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Killer funky! "Hot Pants" is one of James' pivotal tracks from the early 70s – and as you'll hear on this 3-part version, he'd totally perfected his masterful recording style of endless non-stop party grooves. The band keeps on playing for a very long time, and each part stands as ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
One of the best breakbeat tracks you'll ever find from the JBs! This original single includes parts 1, 2, & 3 of this monster cut from the "Damn Right I Am Somebody" LP – which are more than were on the album version! A classic, and still one of the best cuts ever by the JBs! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Funky funky Rufus! This one's a monster – with great drums, rolling bass, and riffing guitar that scratches up the whole dark track to keep it nice and funky! Rufus' vocals hardly get in the way, and the cut's one of his funkiest ever! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Excellent trippy instrumentals from Chicago! "The Vamp" has some great chromatic guitar – a bit like Cal Green, with touches of Wes Montgomery – over a hard rolling organ on the beat groove. Tasty stuff – the kind of single that would blow the speakers off your jukebox ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Two stormin' 60's soul cuts, with a "Horse" dance groove in a follow-up to Cliff's big hit. "Judge Baby" has a goofy vocal refrain, with a bit of a Pigmeat Markham feel. "Horse Fever" is an instrumental – and a nice one at that! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Massive funkiness from the early 70s! "Jungle Fever" is one of those cuts that we never tire of – with pounding slow funk drums that still send a shiver down our spine. "Cha Ka Cha" is a slow Latin groover – with almost an LA Chicano funk sound. 7-inch, Vinyl record
A great little number from Joe – very different than most of his other stuff! As you might guess by the "part 2", the tune's a funk number – one that's got a vamping horn heavy sound, with a tight snapping drum knocking away underneath. Joe's never sounded so funky! 7-inch, Vinyl record
