LP, Vinyl record album

Alvino Rey's swinging "wow-wow" guitar sounds a lot like Esquivel's use of pedal steel, and this album's a great bunch of work in that vein, with swinging strident arrangements that mix the guitar and baritone sax solos. Great hip bachelor pad stuff (Rainbow label pressing.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Capitol, Early 60s. Very Good
One of the best albums by Tak Shindo – a west coast Japanese composer/arranger who was one of the few exotica artists to actually have the cultural cred to the sound! Teen Drums
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good-
One of Les Baxter's best for Capitol! Forget the "teen" in the title, because this is a super-hip album filled with great percussion tracks. Viva Bossa Nova!
Capitol, 1962. Very Good+
A sweet little album from Laurindo Almeida and his "Bossa Nova All Stars" – not a group of Brazilian musicians, and instead a hip set of LA players who really help make the set sparkle! MFP (UK), 1976. Near Mint-
The album has a striking picture of Jaws on the cover – and follows up with its main theme, as well as key themes from a host of other 70s horror and disaster movies! Shades Of Today
Verve, Late 60s. Very Good
Groovy pop orchestrations from one of the best bandleaders working at Verve in the late 60's. Sweet Verve sounds, with a mix of jazz, easy, and Brazilian sounds, and tracks like "Laia Ladaia", "Cinnamon & Clove", "The Look of Love", "Arrasto", and "B ... LP, Vinyl record album
United Artists, Mid 60s. Very Good+
Groovy guitarist Al lays down a tasty set of 60s spy and cop themes – all with a Leroy Holmes production style that's similar to other pop soundtrack work on United Artists. Moog Groove
Limelight, Late 60s. Very Good
Wonderful funky fuzzy moogy! The cover proclaims that this is the "first album of electronic rock" – and although we don't know how true that is, the record's a nice batch of moogy covers – featuring tracks like "Grazin In the Grass", "Aquarius", "Penn ... LP, Vinyl record album
