Swingin' Fling

LP (Item 8338) Capitol, Late 50s — Condition: Near Mint-
$9.99 ...

LP

(€8.84 || £7.68 || ¥1003) (approx.)

Alvino Rey's swinging "wow-wow" guitar sounds a lot like Esquivel's use of pedal steel, and this album's a great bunch of work in that vein, with swinging strident arrangements that mix the guitar and baritone sax solos. Great hip bachelor pad stuff (Rainbow label pressing. Cover has a half split top seam and some marker on back.)  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Guitar From Ipanema
Capitol, Mid 60s. Very Good
Breezy bossa nova – Hollywood 60s style! The album's one of the best cut for Capitol by guitarist Laurindo Almeida – and has a sweet groovy little style that features Laurindo's lovely guitar work over some lightly dancing small combo backings that include flute, harmonica, organ, ... Jackie Gleason's soundtrack for "that moment" of love, lust, whatever. Like a lot of his stuff from this period, not totally spot-on for the specified act (at least we'd never try to make "that moment" happen with this stuff), but it's still pretty great lush orchestral stuff, ... The great arranger in one of his grooviest settings – a very jazzy album that features trombone from Milt Bernhart and Bob Enevoldsen, guitar from Barney Kessel, percussion from Larry Bunker, drums from Shelly Manne, and trumpe from Don Fagerquist! Fantastic! This is Yma Sumac's rock album from the early 70's – and it's got a wild sound that's totally different from any of her work at Capitol! The record includes lots of electric instrumentation, and Yma's voice moves from the exotic to the psychedelic, as she sings along with some ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of Al Hirt's grooviest records – and a set that definitely lives up to the "soul" in the title! The album's always in demand for the excellent sample cut "Harlem Hendoo", but it certainly isn't a one tracker – thanks to composer Paul Griffin and arranger Teacho ... LP, Vinyl record album
